One thing I'll say about the deer whistles is the number of cars that I've seen that have hit a deer and still had a whistle on the undamaged area of the bumper. It's very large. They were all the rage quite a while back and it seemed everybody had them. I don't think it even put a small dent (pun intended) in the autobody repair business. Their popularity has dropped a large amount because of this.
I've never had them and never will. I've driven, quite literally, hundreds of thousands of miles for work with the bulk of it being second or third shift, through one of the most highly deer populated areas of the state. I've never hit a deer. I've had a few close calls, but by driving defensively, including about 5 MPH slower at night, I've avoided any physical contact with deer.
It's nothing to see anywhere from 4-5 deer on a drive home to close to 45 deer at night. That's why I drive a little slower. It only adds maybe an extra minute or two to the trip, but saves a lot of time by not having to get my vehicle repaired.
On the road again...........and forever young!

If the whistle was attached to an undamaged piece of the car: it must have repelled the deer from that particular area!

Ever heard of.......
Putting cow magnets on your car's fuel line to improve gas mileage? It worked out very well for the manufactures of cow magnets. Just like all these super duper fishing lures that are designed to catch more fish. They're actually designed to catch fishermen, not fish, and they do a pretty good job of what they were designed to do. $$$$$$$
