Default New Owner - Fuel Cap Question

I just purchased a 2008 Spyder GS SM5. Can someone tell from the pics if this is the new or old Gas Cap?

The problem is BRP customer service will not do any thing because the service history says the dealer the original owner used replaced it. I'm not super concerned about a 10 dollar part, but it makes me wonder what else they charged BRP for and didn't do.

youngers: No it does NOT seal. I will check with another dealer. The one I stopped at wants $115.00 (1 shop hour) to "inspect" the bike and tell me what service they think it needs.

You have the old cap. It is identical to the one I removed from my '08 GS. I still have it & just compared it to your 2 pics. In small writing below "WARNING" it also says "fuel spray may cause injury"

The replacement caps were useless anyway because often after 18 months or so the mechanism goes in them and you find yourself stuck at a petrol station unable to remove the gas cap. Wouldn't surprise me if this happened to the previous owner and the went back to using the old cap. This may well be why BRP think its been replaced.

If you are getting another it may be worth getting a Stant one instead. Can't remember the part number but I suspect someone else will.

Yeah I put a Stant fuel cap on it. Any time the bike needs parts I will opt for after market when available.
