Default DATE WHEN TIRE WAS MADE

I have looked for this info because it's been posted but can't find it ..... somewhere on all tires is a code that enables you to figure out when a tire was made ( approximately ) ....... Thanks .... Mike

On the sidewall of the tire at the end of the DOT information there is an oval with a four digit number in it.The first two digits identiify the week and the second two digits identify the year.

I owe the information to SpyderAnn who explained it to me specifically concerning the last date for the soft rear tire compound on the 2014 RTs. Any tire with a date later than 2814 was one that had the old, harder compound that was brought back when so many owners complained about very short rear tire life in the new tire compound.

Default AGE OF THE PIRELLI TIRE I JUST BOUGHT

Thanks to all you CODE breakers out there .... the tire was made in late Apr. of 2014 .... so it's 3 yrs. & 4 mos. old .....yes getting very close to an age that would give me concern, but it's probably going on shortly ...... Mike

5 years old isn't too bad for a tire - here in Oz anything up to 7 years old is still legally able to be sold as 'new' (as long as it's unused! ) but after that, it's a no go!

We also 'allow' tires up to 10 years old with sufficient tread depth to be classed as 'roadworthy' without necessarily requiring further 'testing' to confirm it's adequate, altho some authorities have been known to just use a swift kick as the 'further testing'!

Still, it's probably a good thing to get on with using that Pirelli - I mean, we all want to know what you think of it for your Spyder, & how can we find out unless you do some miles on it!
