Default February in Destin Florida

We will be spending the month of February in Destin Florida. Can we get some suggestions for rides centering on Destin? We are also thinking of riding up to Atlanta, over to New Orleans and will be visiting friends in The Villages Fla. Can we get some imput on those areas as well?
Thanks,
John

I was stationed at Hurlburt Field in Ft. Walton Beach, which is right down the road from Destin. Man, I miss that area.
I would suggest riding west on Rte 98 into Navarre, then taking the Navarre Bridge over the sound. Then taking Gulf Blvd to Pensacola Beach. A beautiful ride with probably the whitest, softest sand you will ever see.

if you are into Military Hardware, visit the Air Force Armament Museum http://www.afarmamentmuseum.com
there are many fine aircraft and other weapons that have been utilized by the Air Force over the years....
while in Destin, it's a MUST to visit AJ's

and have a grilled grouper sandwich... AWESOME....
ENJOY, and give us feed-back as to how you liked the area....

How are you getting here ?

It can still be cold in Feb. in the panhandle and even more so in Atlanta.

It is about a 7 hour non-interstate ride to the Villages from there.

Stay flexible. The weather is likely to throw you a curve or two.

I found the battleship in Mobile interesting.

We are driving down from Illinois with the Spyder in an enclosed trailer, me, the wife and the pup.
It'll be -1 with a -10 windchill in the morning. Hah! We laugh at the cold!
We'll only be down to the villages visiting for a couple of days. Then back to Destin.
Yeah, as long as it's above 50 we'll be riding, but it is vacation, so we'll play it by ear and not make concrete plans.
Mobile may be a bit far but I do like seeing military things.

I suggest going east on Hwy 98 to 30A. VERY nice ride and you'll see 5 Million Dollar homes and up. Once on the east end of 30A you get back on Hwy 98 and head towards Panama City Beach. You can ride along Front Beach Road and be right against the Gulf.

I also suggest taking Hwy 98 outside of Panama City and riding down to Apalachicola, FL. You'll go right through Tyndall Air Force Base and you'll most likely hear and feel the F18's and F22's buzzing by.

You never know what the weather is going to be here during February. Some days it's shorts and some days you are going to want a heavy jacket.

You could also ride to Pensacola and check out the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola Naval Air Station. If you'll be riding in the Panama city area, drop me a PM and maybe we could go to lunch. Dale

Get your plans right & heads up can be fun but a traffic nightmare too
http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/w...ardi-gras.html as I understand the general thought is parades from San Antonio TX- Jacksonville FL scattered thorough out Feb & March. Good luck & have a good time.

Only 108 miles from Destin.
Scenic ride along the Gulf.
But can be breezy much of the time.

How exactly does one contact this "large Spyder club in the villages" ??
I've asked before and got no response.

Does one have to live IN the "villages" to participate ??

But Sandestin does not allow motorcycles (and my wife won’t ryde) so we will be in a car 🚗 of sorts😆👍

Default Good information so far.

Thanks for the information so far. Yes, if we go to New Orleans we will want to avoid the crowds, so I'm looking at celebration timing. As for The Villages, we will be visiting family and will leave the Spyder in Destin but bringing the Pup.Cooks pic 118.jpg
Dale, lunch sounds good, I'll contact you when we get down there.
I didn't look at the map and thought Mobile was further away. We'll see.
I think SanDestin is where we are going with friends for the Gumbo Festival, so we'll be in the car there as well.
