Tire valve stems
Greetings to all
I am getting ready to install a new back tire on my 2010 RT-S w/20,200 on the original tire and I would like to put steel valve stems on. What is the diameter of the valve stem hole and has anybody changed these and where did you get them?

Better idea
Put a new steel valve stem where you can get at it! Buy a 90 degree stem in steel. Cycle gear has them. Measure and Mark, drill a hole in the rim, install stem. Mount tire. Problem solved.

Why would I want to drill, I'm just looking to replace what is there now. That's why I was wondering the valve stem hole diameter, I was wondering if it was a .453 or not

.453
It is the standard .453. I put an enkei valve in my rear tire.

Weight and balance?
I want a 90 degree valve stem so it's easier to check pressure and it looks like you would have better access on the right side. Would a steel valve stem mess with the weight and balance of the rear wheel? Where can I get one?

Check the balance after installing.

otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

METAL VALVE STEMS
I have done this THREE times already .......KURVEY GIRL . COM sells steel ones 85 or 87 degree's ( close enough ) or get it elsewhere .............. My advise is when you drill the NEW HOLE .....put it almost in the CENTER of the RIM , this way it won't interfere with the TIRE MOUNTING MACHINE .............don't ask how I know this ...................And you can leave the other one in...........................JMHO........Mike

Tire stems
Thanks for the responses, I was hoping it was the .453. Now I just have to decide how much of an angle I want to go with.

The difference between 85 -87 or 90 is so small from 10 ft. you couldn't tell the difference .....jmho...Mike

I used these on three previous bikes. They are very well made.

I have no problem finding it. Been a chief mechanic for 35 years. I just like to see how it looks. I might not like the way it looks on the rim. Excuse me for asking for a picture,.

Valve Stem Position
Has anyone modified the valve stem on a RT to point to the right side?
It seems little difficult to check the air from where it is now.

It's really, really easy to check the air with FOBO on the stock stem. Then if you see a change that alarms you, you can check it manually.........and they work fine on the rubber stems according to both the local Spyder dealer and the tyre guy.
Since it takes me ten minutes to get down and back up these days, I wouldn't ride without them.

If you want to check the rear tire easier Harley makes an extension that allows you get the gauge and air chuck up where you can see/use them. It is $10.00 at your local Harley Davidson dealer.
