Rear Brake pads
I have the 2012 Limited with the (Automatic)
I have had the Rear pads replaced a couple of times now, and they were recently done with EBC, As I only have about 17,000 miles on the bike, Now it appears the pads maybe wore out again....I have several other sport/Tour bikes and have never seen anything burn through pads like this....
I also had the dealer check it out and they said nothing was wrong...
Is there something els here I need to be looking at....

With 7500 on mine, my mechanic commented on how thin he thought my rear pads looked, but we decided they would last until I got back from Canada and we did another service. So maybe 10,000 miles on a set

Recently replaced my rear pads and rotor with EBC from BahaRon. Like you, I've never seen rear brakes wear as fast as on the Spyder.

Its is not the miles that are on the brakes.... but the amount of times that you use those brakes and how hard you use those brakes in those miles.... Think about it...

Ron,
Do the aftermarket pads eliminate the brake squeal?

You need to do more engine braking and less foot braking.....

In almost every case, yes. But there have been a few customers who got noise out of these EBC pads. No way to know why.

As the front brakes generally do 70% or more of the overall braking on most vehicles, I find it curious that the rears are wearing out faster than the fronts.

Do you carry them for the 2014 RT?

Have never tested this out but my theory is that the braking system is biased towards the rear wheel. In other words, the rear brake is applied first and released last. This would tend to stabilize the Spyder when stopping and might explain why the rear wears so quickly.

Darn, I guess I just assumed that you'd have pads for the 2014. I'm at 16,000 miles and my pads are okay but it won't be long until I need some. I do engine brake quite often but I also pull a loaded trailer often too.

Varies..!!
RS sm5 2012 with 22,000 miles and breaks still in specs. I ryde double up most of the time but use engine compression to slow down also most of the time. RT's are heavier and can carry more weight. Pulling trailers etc add to that wear...

I have also mentioned about mine in other threads, but seems appropriate here also.
Never replaced brake pads on any of my Spyders. My high milers were are 36,500, 25,000, and 23,500. When I brought the 2011 in for season start up service, they said the brakes were fine at 13,000 miles.
I do a lot of mountain descending here, but let the engine do the braking most of the time. I also enter twisties at just enough speed to accelerate slightly--so no brakes on most curves. I try to drive so my foot is not on the brake a lot.
Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.
Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)
MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles
IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

Also the diameter of the disk should be larger and the caliber should have at least two pistons, due to the size and weight of the rear tire, rim, and drive sprocket. That's IMHO.

I was going to be replacing mine anyway because of the squeal, but I won't be near my shop to be able to do the work for at least a couple of weeks.
