    Default Rear Tire and Mounting

Haven't been on here in a while -- don't really have a good reason --

But in the matter of rear tires, the original on my wife's Spyder went over 9,000 and the wear bars are starting to show.

What seems to be a good replacement (I read Kumho if you can get them) what kind of mileage out of them? --

And what is the amount of time needed for the install and adjustment?

You can get around 20,000 miles out of a car tire like a Kumho. I am running a Michelin Primacy for over 15,000 miles with plenty of tread left. 215/60/15 is a good alternative size with lot's of options if you can't find any in the original size. That's the size I am running. The highest rated tire in Tire Rack's tests is a General Altimax RT 43.

Other than the KUMHO, the other three EXACT rear size IMHO aren't going to last more than 8 to 10,000 miles..... I agree on the Altimax choice , it will probably be my next rear tire. The 215/60-15 size corrects the speedometer error....Mike

    Default Tires....

Don't get into tire recommendations....but time will depend on the shop/who does it, but most will charge the flat rate. If privetly done you have to add the who mounts and balances. There are videos if you venture into it....

Ann, just curious... How many miles did you get on the Yokohama s-Drive you installed earlier this year, and what did you think of that tire?

Spent my black Friday with AIW (Angelic Italian Wifey) & headed from our home in Metairie, LA, suburb of Nawlin's to Hattiesburg, MS Power Sports. Below is new vs old stock tires.
Had a laser alignment done which proved fruitful as there were some adjustments to be made.

when they pulled the tire, it had 10,800miles with no cord showing

about 1.5 hrs for the tire and 1 hr for the laser alignment

$185 for tire, $99 for install, $125 for laser alignment

I'm hating myself for saying this:
$82 for the Kumho Ecsta tire in the OEM sizing, and $50 to mount it...

    Sorry...

with no fuss (admittedly, expensive "no fuss")

next time...I'll learn how to pull the wheel and get a General Altimax
    no worries

I think you are correct Mike, I know it was less than 9,000. The tire handles like a Kenda but it is soft also like a Kenda. I had the tire on for my trip to Alaska so it was all miles pulling a loaded trailer.

I don't do my own change, but the fellow that does my Spyder work (dealers to far away and he is MUCH better). My last Khumo I was the first time he changed..took him 2 hours...this time, expert status, was an hour. (he charges me $55 hour). I have had rear tires and fronts mounted y dealers and paid "handsomely" but was verrrrry grateful to have it done. Safety is priceless.
Les Schwab charges me $8 to to put on new tire, with glass beads and get rid of carcass tire!!! My first Khumo Esta I was at 20k...put a Khumo back on..got from ebay/Discount Tire: $81 delivered to my doorstep. I've added glass beads to the rear (have been running them in front OEM's with success) so will let you know what improvement there is (if any)...

    Default Rear tire

I am running the General Altimax RT 43 as a rear tire on my spyder, I replaced the original (Kenda) rear tire @ 5,820 miles. I am running the originals ( Kenda's) tires on the front & General Altimax RT 43 on the rear. The spyder handles well, on dry, wet, gravel, dirt, roads.
Here is a picture of the General Altimax RT 43 on the rear of my Spyder: Good luck! Mike( Blueknight911) helped and suggested to me to use the General Altimax R T 43, because of the ratings, he said that I could get 30,000 miles out it. Deanna
