Chrome Dipped Rims?
Thinking about getting my factory rims dipped. Has anybody had any bad experiences with this? For example, peeling, fading, etc?
-
No problems here.....
I haven't done it with the Spyder, but I did have it done on my last bike, a 2006 Stratoliner. I sold that bike this past April and the wheels still looked like the day I had them done. Wish I remembered the name of the vendor, but it was a guy I found on the Star Roadliner and Stratoliner forum.

If the wheels are cast aluminum than I would say no , just buy an aftermarket set .
I think you will have a 50% chance of getting a good job , and interested to hear if and how long the warranty is for .
Or just buy the stock wheels that are chrome from he factory , what's their warranty ?
Good luck and make sure it's worth the money , sometimes it's close to the same money to get a cool looking aftermarket set .

Good point!
"sometimes it's close to the same money to get a cool looking aftermarket set ."
The BRP rims are actually pretty reasonably priced compared to custom wheels for cruisers.

EBay has the Limited's wheels normally available for about $585.00 with free shipping...

I had mine done...no problems.I just sold the bike and the wheels looked as good as when they were done over 2 years ago.
-
Now for the big question: How much did it cost to have them done?
-
Waaaay too much Bob. Five hundred bucks for the pair..bringing the grand total to.
-
Well that's still a bit cheaper than tapping EBay for a set of Limited wheels...
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Just to fill you guys in, the dealer said that they can swap my stock rims for a set of Chrome dipped stock rims for $700. Does this sound like a deal? Im Also open to finding a pair of Aftermarket Chrome rims, if anybody has suggesstions for a 2012 RS. Please let me know. Thanks!

What is a chrome dipped rim? I have a friend that wants a chrome back wheel but, the surface finish of the stock wheel will probably not allow it to be plated. Would this work?

Yes, it will work. The shop that did my front wheels had no problem in doing it if I wanted to go ahead with it.

Thanks!
Bob,in addition to the five hundred I bought another set of rims because of the down time in getting them done(I wanted to keep the bike on the road)...like I said, waay too much money spent on the project!

I see...
Sounds like a WinterTime project then!
