Default I can now back up the RT

After several hours in the shop the tech finally figured out why reverse on the new RT was not working. When I arrived at the dealer this morning, the thing clicked into reverse okay (as one would expect). After all the laughter had subsided, I straddled the bike, selected reverse and nothing happened.

One of the assembled folks from sales and service suggested I didn't push into reverse fast enough. I did it again and still no reverse. After four other employees tried to get it into gear I finally walked to the lounge area, told them I had a good book and to call me when they solved the problem.

by lunchtime, still no solution. They loaned me an RS to go have lunch and when I returned they had a solution.

Turns out there is a small cable actuated by a solenoid that pulls the reverse gear into place. That cable runs inside a shield like a conduit and somehow (either during assembly or at the factory) that shield was crimped. This resulted in sometimes allowing the cable to pull and sometimes not. So the crimp was repaired and a new cable assembly is on order.

They had never run into this before so I have added a new chapter to their service manual.

Here are the first photos of the new bike with a touch of chrome added.

Glad to see that you persevered, kept your humor and most importantly got your problem resolved. Squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Great news! At least they were able to find the cause and know how to fix it!

    Thumbs up

Glad both you and the shop didn't give up and the problem was solved.

I like the chrome trim. Gives it a unique look. Very nice.
