Front Pulley Wear

Question about belt/front pulley wear.
Recently had a new rear tire installed on the back
Had been having a slight whine in the rear at 22mph so figured it was the rear bearings which were replaced at the same time.
I have tried to align the belt a few times to get the correct front to rear alignment but with no luck.

I guess my question is this: Has anyone had problems with the front pulley wearing out so much that it forces the belt to the outside of front pulley?
Mine seems to have quite a bit of wear on it - maybe 1/16 of an inch
Belt squeals quite a bit now
I have 23k miles on it so far but I thought front pulley would last longer.

Any ideas/suggestion/solutions?

You should get way more miles out of a front pulley.

The alignment is touchy.....a little goes a long way.

Are you sure the rear axle is all put together right?

As I recently posted, there are 100,000 miles on my 2009 GS SM5 with the original belt, front and rear sprocket. They look to be in good shape. There is a service bulletin on the proper torque for the front sprocket.

As far as I can tell the real axle is assembled correctly - per the diagram of parts blowup.
I am taking it up to my shop in a while and going to go thru it again and I will take some pics at that point and post them on here in the next few hours
Its more the wear on front pulley that concerns me at this point. I am going to check all motor mount bolts as well to make sure engine hasnt shifted in some way causing the problem and Ill check torque of front pulley

Spline wear on front pulley is what I would be concerned with.
You need to remove front pulley to check for wear...

Ok here is the update

3 issues I can see right off

1) Bearing in rear sprocket - TOAST and only 3 weeks/1000 miles old - crunchy best describes it
I would think that will be replaced under warranty

2) Front sprocket has play moving in and out towards engine - maybe 2-4 mm

3) Front sprocket can be moved up and down about 2 mm

Checked splines on front sprocket and shaft - all looks good

So Tuesday morning Spydie will be off to the dealer for the work

I'm assuming this work was done at Dealer rear wheel bearing, Could also have bad bearing on engine output shaft..Hope you get repaired in time for Maggie Valley...

If you don't hear any noise from the front, pushing forward and pulling backwards the Spyder: front sprocket is OK.
Have the service replace all bearings, seals and O rings in the back

all rear bearings/seals/o-rings were replaced the week before Spyderfest as was a new tire

Dealer I take it to is very good on working on Spyders and the guys know their stuff.

Ill talk to them on Tuesday and find out what they may do to fix it.
Hoping its just a single bad bearing but it should be covered under warranty since its only 3-4 weeks old and they did the install of the bearings

Not only does the front and rear sprockets wear but the belt also wears. If you replace, because of wear, any one of these three components that are not replaced will cause the new component to wear abnormally. Some time ago I wrote a description on how to align the rear sprocket so that the belt runs somewhat cenetered on the rear sprocket. I can dig it up and email it to ever wants to know. Mine had an alignment issue that could not be corrected and resulted in pulley and belt replacement at under 18,000 miles. Here is a link to the thread I posted with pictures.

My front pulley looks the same as yours does so Im guessing they will have to replace all parts associated with it as well
Rear bearings are toast after 4 weeks now as well so they will be replaced as well.

Luckily my rear sprocket and bearings didn't appear to have any damage, and things have been good since the initial repair.

Best of luck with your repairs, I hope they don't keep it in the shop for too long.
