The simple ones are my favorite. Been trying to find a mount for mine forever. For now I just suction cup it to the dash over the tac. (RS). Now you got me thinking.
Nice job on the gps mount. I can't tell if the suction cup itself is being held down. I have seen the suction cup let lose on a Spyder and on a car windshield.
Nice work with the plate. Not to rain on your parade, but, suction cups and motorcycles are usually a bad match. I would put some sort of tether on your GPS in case the suction cup comes loose.

I haven’t had one disconnect with the suction cup, but I admit it made me nervous thinking it might fall off, so I bought a second suction cup mount for 4 bucks and bolted it to the steel plate.
Pretty simple idea. I like. I bought a bean bag gps mount from amazon for $25 and a $9 12ft extension plug in from amazon to go from the rear trunk to just under the handle bars. I haven't taken it out on the road yet because I'm still playing with the angle of the dash and the gps hardware. Its a 7in Magellan I picked up from Costco for $200. If it don't work out, I'll just take it back. What do you think about putting adhesive on the back of your plate and sticking it on the dash? That way it will always be in front of you.

Typically a gps comes with a little round disk that has double back tape on it so that you can stick it to the dash in your car, if you get one with the gps it would be easier to stick it to the dash rather than to the steel plate then to the dash.

I decided to try out your idea but I need to know what size allen wrench you used to remove the bottom 2 bolts. No gotty in my "vast" tool arsenal. I assume its either a 6.5 or 7. My town does not have much resources either.
BTW, how long did it hold or is it still on. Any vibration problems?

I purchased a 2011 RS-S
I purchased a mount from the mount guys in New Jersey and modified it to fit on the right side mirror between the mirror n the windshield. Looks factory and easier to see. (not so close) n much easier to mount
