Advice on mobile phone placement, what would work?
Hello my sage advisors!
My daily rider is a 2024 Can-Am Spyder F3 S ("Lucille") and currently I am using a SP Connect system to hold my iPhone Pro Max 13 (strongly considering getting an Android). I had to use a combo of two mouting kits to get it to a). fit the thicker Can-Am handlebar and b). to get a good viewable angle. However, what I would prefer is for the phone to rest over the handlebar clamp, high enough so the phone can be mounted in portrait and be rotated to landscape (that's the way SP Connect works, it's either landscape or portrait, not both).
I included photos of the handlebar clamp that was installed on the 2024 model, so you fine folks out there can see if there have been any changes to the handlebar clamp since 2023 or earlier...
Since buying the 2024 model, it's been tough finding mods for her because - I've heard and read - there were a lot of changes made from the 2023 to 2024 models. I don't know exactly what changes were made. I know I couldn't order an adjustable windhsield from MadStad (via SlingMods.com) because of a bolt placement change or something.
What advice do you have for one wishing to put their cell phone over the handlebar clamp (for the lack of a better word)? What current products out there would work?

I went with a handlebar mount for my GPS, but can understand your desire for a center mount option.
I have no experience with this company or product, but this might be what you're looking for:
You might want to give Motorcycle Dave (one of our sponsors here! ) a call to discuss the options he can supply - I'm pretty sure that you won't get a better price anywhere else!
This might not be exactly what you're after (talk to Dave about that! ) but here's a quote from him that was in another thread:

I have used RAM mounts for years. Sometimes you have to be inventive on how you're going to go about it. But they have holders for just about anything. I'll have to get a couple of pics of my arrangements for my XM Onyx, phone, and GPS.

Check with canamspyderaccessories.com for fitment on a 2024. The description reads: Stainless Steel Bolt with 1" RAM Mount Ball (All years - models except with Tri-Axis handlebars) It can replace any of the 4 handlebar bolts. https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-1nu0...935210.jpg?c=2

I use a RAM ball mount on a Lamonster Top Cuff. I have several of the Tackform mounts, and they work great. That said, with my newer IPhone 15 Pro Max, I use the RAM Quick Grip XL as it is much more protective of the camera lenses while rolling down the interstates on trips. I also feel it is more secure. https://www.amazon.com/RAM-Quick-Gri..._source=1&th=1

I'm also being forced to retire my old cell phone and I'm having to swap out my old mounting system too. I just talked to MotorcycleDave on the phone (landline) yesterday and I'm going to have him send me the Trackform listed above to fit the new larger Android 24. Good luck. You'd be hard pressed to find a better guy to deal with.

I have a 2018 F3-L and a large Android Note 8. Use the Lamonster XL Quick Grip holder w/ball and mount. This is designed for the larger Android and Apple Phones. The top pulls up on a spring to snap back against whatever size phone you have. Also, the adjustable side pegs can accommodate most any width of your phone. Have had this arrangement for 3 years now, and it's been flawless. There is a link at the bottom directly to this product for your viewing. In addition, I have a few snapshots of the rest of my handlebar gadgets for your review.
The GPS on the left is a Garmin 65 with ball mount. The center radio is a ham radio VHF/UHF transceiver with Bluetooth to helmet audio. The phone on the right is the Android Samsung Note 8 with the Lamonster XL mount. All have worked very well.
I have this ball mount on Hookie the Asphalt Grey Spyder, with a Garmin Zumo XT GPS. My Pixel 6 overheats on the handle bar on warm days and the screen is harder to see than the Garmin. https://store.valueaccessories.net/S...MMountKit.aspx

I use a Trackform Center Mount on my 2014 Spyder. I have a friend that used a handlebar mount on the bar itself & made a hard turn to dodge a pothole and the phone went flying.
I did remove my Garmin GPS but I really didn’t like using it anyway.

Sorry, I didn't even ask so I don't know. Whatever it will be I'm sure it will be the fairest available. I haven't made my decision on exactly which phone I'm getting yet so I haven't ordered the mount yet. I'm sure Dave will give me the best price out there because that's what he's known for. Dam phones are so expensive now and you buy one today and tomorrow there's a newer and better one.
I'm very happy with the QuadLock ram ball mount and anti-vibration add-on mounted to the SlingMods handlebar USB mount. However, I just experienced a darkened and overheated phone now that the weather is warming up, and it's in the direct sunlight. Now I'm looking for some sort of phone shade that will work in conjunction with the quadlock, and in portrait orientation.

Talk to him, you'll quickly find out why he won't advertise his prices and besides, we encourage members to take that sort of discussion/negotiation to PM anyway!
I've been considering a mount as well for my large Android (Note20 Ultra ~ soon to be upgraded to a new model). There seem to be a lot of choices, but I never saw the value in many mounts for motorcycles and now Spyder's because they block the gauges!
I'm holding out for a very secure mount that allows HORIZONTAL mounting over the bars that does not interfere with access to the key or block the gauges. I also don't like the height that using a ball mount requires. I'd prefer as close to the bars as possible.

The bottom picture looks like it would block the view of the instrument cluster, but when you're on the Spyder, you have a clear view of the gauge cluster.

Reason: Spaces around attachments for viewability on ALL sized devices! ;-)
I just put in glove box and Ryde. If someone text or calls, I get it on my Apple Watch and stop to reply. My phone is too expensive to go flying down the road when some idiot cuts me off!
