Default Anyone else ever noticed how many really overweight guys ride Harleys?

Has anyone else ever noticed how many really overweight guys ride Harleys? As opposed to Spyders, which in 10 years of riding a Spyder I have noticed only a really small number of the same. Inquiring minds want to know.

Correct. It's mathematical, torque required per pound.
Little known fact, most Harley riders carry a pocket calculator.

I went to the local Harley dealership and told them I was interested in buying one and a sales guy told me he could not sell me one because my waistline was too small.

Back in the early 2000 Honda had problems with cracked welds on the Honda Goldwing, the GWRRA had an article asking members to lose weight because they could be at fault for the welds not holding and not be mother Honda's fault. you can't make this stuff up!

I always wondered what was at the end of the loopy chains dangling from their belts. Now I know!

I lost 64 pounds a while ago. Was then forced to sell my Softail and buy a BMW. Then I turned 78, and now I'm on a 2015 F3.

It all has to do with population statistics. The US has a lot of overweight people. Many of the overweight population are men. Harley Davidson is still considered the brand to own by most macho type men. Since many of the overweight are men, and men like Harley's, we are going to have a lot of big guys driving Harleys. Not so many on Spyders, because they are a smaller part of the motorcycle slice of the pie. It all makes sense to me. IMO...of course.

Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

    Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)

MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles

IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

Quite some time ago I came upon a long line of choppers parked alongside the interstate headed by Barger. There wasn't a fat dude among the whole lot of them. What's happened since then, I have no idea. But yeah, now you see fat guys piloting tri-glides.

I rode a hard mount Harley for over 20 years, and the vibration from it kept the weight vibrated off. Now that I am riding a smooth as glass Can Am, I have gained a few pounds.

Could be when Harley started selling the rubber mounted engines it made the Harley riders gain weight, or it could be just the beer they drink.

You would think all that vibration would get rid of that!
