Having problems getting insurance in Canada - who do you use?
I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and I'm having problems getting insurance. I have a clean record, but as soon as I bring up Spyder, that ends the call. What company do you use?

Reason: Expanded title to briefly ask the question... Then added Country emphasis for those who can't see it.... ;-)

I use Progressive, but I live in the U.S., not Canada. It seems odd to me that an insurance company would be hesitant to insure a Spyder but would insure a two wheel motorcycle. I might be wrong, but I assume that the 3 wheel Spyder (and Ryker and F3) all have lower rates of claims than do traditional two wheel motorcycles. A tipover at a stop light can do a few thousand dollars worth of damage to body panels of a 2 wheeler, but 3 wheelers do not tip over. The greater visibility of the front end of a Spyder means it is less likely that a car or truck driver will turn left in front of you because they did not see you as compared to the smaller profile of a 2 wheel motorcycle. But I will admit that I do not know much about Canada and the attitudes there about motorcycles.

First off, I wouldn’t telephone the Insurance Agent....go to see him in person. It’s easy to hang up a phone, but more difficult to brush off a customer in person.
Are you talking liability, collision or both. In B.C. The liability is I.C.B.C. (Government Insurance) which is B.C. only but my collision is with Beacon (don’t know if they’re Canada wide.
I wish you luck.

Are you actually talking to someone at an insurance company or broker or is it thru some online access thing. If its online, maybe it is not setup to handle motorcycle/Spyder's.

Progressive is not in Canada (Damn It)
Talk to whoever you have your house or car insurance with.
We just switched are ours to Desjardins from Intact for all three.

I'm in Caledon Ontario and insure both my Indian Roadmaster and 2020 Spyder RTL through Intact Insurance. The actual Insurance broker I use is Brokerlink Inc. You can reach them at 1-800-268-3394.
Not sure if they are only local to us here in Southern Ontario but hopefully they can either help you out or direct you to a northern agent.
Good luck!!

Do CAA insure all motorcycles? I wasn’t aware, or are they only doing the excess limits? Full liability as well as physical damage coverage to the bike itself?

I am insured with the Personal. They have insured all my different vehicles over the years. They have always been good to deal with.

The CAA coverage for my Spyder is identical to that on my car. I've had 2-wheel bikes insured there previously.
We get a discount because it's multi-vehicle and we've also bundled our home insurance. Because it's got Elka shocks, they added $500 to the insured value of the Spyder.
Coverages for the car and Spyder include both civil liability and damage to Vehicle for Collision and upset, and all perils other than collision or upset, and they have the same deductibles. The policy also has Accident Benefits Insurance -- which is Reimbursement of medical expenses.
I've never had a claim for a motorcycle so can't comment on that, but to this point, I'm very satisfied.
Ryde safe,
Rod.

Watch out for shysters that have a deer clause in their policies.
I know two cases here in southern Ontario were someone hit a deer and was not covered.
The company stated that because they lived in a high deer population area, they needed special coverage.
I didn't believe it until the one guy showed it to me in the fine print.

Are you in a high risk category? Is that why you can't get insurance? What about your home and other vehicles; why won't that agent/broker/company cover your Spyder? There's something you're not telling us, I think.

No, they said you needed special coverage because they live in a high deer population area.
That is what was written in the fine print.
That would mean half of Canada would need " special coverage".
Unless it was hunting season LOL
I asked our agent about and they said it BS

I have Intact. I hit a dog with my 2013 STL, on a Monday night. Did about $1500 damage. Next morning I called the dealer and had them order all the parts. I looked up all the parts myself on BRPs online parts catalog. Told them I would pay if insurance did not. Called the insurance Company. Adjuster called me back an hour later. He wanted to look at the Spyder at the Dealer on Thursday. I dropped the Spyder at the dealer on Thursday morning. The parts had already arrived. The adjuster approved the dealer estimate. Picked up the Spyder on Friday. All done. So I was very pleased with insurance for no BS delays. Also very pleased with the dealer.
