Dealer freight and dealer assembly fees - are these normal?
Is it normal for a dealer to charge you $1,190 for dealer freight and $588 for dealer assembly? I was looking at getting the Ryker Sport which has an MSRP of $11,599 and OTD price was $14,891. Without those dealer fees it would have been $12,903 because I live in a state with sales tax. It just seems extremely excessive to pay almost $2,000 extra for something that seems like should be included in the MSRP.

Freight is common to all. I just got another ADV bike, and paid far more. BRP charges all dealers the same, otherwise, everyone would fly to the closest dealer to Valcourt, and buy there! The assembly piece is just that - the tech has to uncrate it, put it together, do the inspection, gas it up, etc. most shops take several hours. At 150 an hour, it adds up. While the tech might only get 25 an hour, if he is not working on other stuff, they are not making money. I agree, some of the fees are outrageous, but it seems like it is everywhere! I do feel your pain; I’m still recovering from it!

Very tight supply is probably the largest factor at this time. Dealers can get it, so they go get it.

My December invoice has some fairly significant fees. I had similar fees last year when I purchased my new 2021 Yukon. So I guess it's just the way it is now.

My 2019 Ryker was List Price + Sales tax + $250 documents. My new 2022 was list price + Tax + $500 shipping + $300 assembly + $250 commodity fee + $300 admin + $200 OTHER. So my 2022 is $13,397. Last one I will ever buy? (Then again I'm 73.)

Two things. #1, these are toys, not necessities. People will splurge on toys but not necessities. #2, Competition. There seems to be little or no competition. Oh, one more thing, people are spontaneous and compulsive toy buyers. And I have to say, I fit somewhere in there myself.

Unfortunately they all do. Here in the Houston area Mancuso has 5 or 6 locations that sell Can Am 3 wheelers. Each has different freight and assembly fee amounts. I prefer to give the LaMarque location 1st dibs on my business because they charged considerably less for it than their SW location when I bought our bikes.

negotiate - negotiate - negotiate
all dealers have a lot of "wiggle room" to arrive at the final OTD costs.

I bought two from my dealer and they did not charge me for shipping or prep, but we had bought quite a few toys from them.

Here is my sales contract from late October. The $400 BRP commodity fee (which is now $750) is listed as a prep and rigging fee. There is also a $199 document and registration fee for all of the paperwork which is about standard around here. Other than that there are no other fees involved. I received 15% off wholesale prices of the accessories I ordered with free installation. I also received the extra year of BEST warranty bringing the total to 3 years.

That is really good!
When I google why Canadians pays so much for stuff, the answer I see often is because Canadians want to pay more. Yeah right....
