Getting back to Spyders
Hi Guys,
Wanting to get back to Spyders again. Had a 2012 for a few years but sold it to get a BMW K 1600. Nice bike but am feeling like I'de be more comfortable on three wheels.
My question is for those of you that have a 2020 RT is, how is your gas mileage? My '12 was terrible. If I rode easy I could get 25-29 mpg. It got scary a few times trying to find gas on some back roads.
Looking forward to getting back on three wheels.
Dale.

During my break in period is was not so great. But regularly getting around 34 mpg now. I use 87 Octane as well. Just did my first Oil change and 3000 mile checklist inspection myself.

Using 87 octane fuel in a 12:1 compression ratio engine could cause major detonation. Understanding that the computer would retard the timing if detonation was sensed, that would cause a large loss of performance. Have you not felt any loss in your travels?

I just filled mine up and with just over 900 miles on the clock I got 31.3 MPG with some interstate driving
and in traffic driving so I'm okay with that for now.

Just turned 300 miles on two tanks of 93 octane. Getting about 29.5 mpg, but not much of that was hwy miles. (Except for first 35 miles, the rest was in ECO mode).

Unhijack:
Will give it a try. Will certainly save money, but if the engine blows up, I'm going to send you the parts.

Thanks for the responses, I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one, as soon as things stare getting back to normal.

I guys,
I have 2015 RT and am amazed on little mileage you guys are getting. I ride 2 up most of the time and am getting between 38 and 42 mile to the gallon using high test. A couple of times I was down to 35 - 37 at 70 miles an hour,
I also have pulled a trailer riding 2 up and was getting 32-33 miles per gallon. I find my bike does better with the high test gas as BRP recommends as this engine was designed for it. I have run regular gas in the bike before and can tell the difference
in how it performs. I will stick with the high test, just saying.

Some ride more aggressive. We have two 1330's. One RT (the big boat) and one F3. IMO, the F3 should get better mileage because its smaller, lighter, and a bit more streamlined.
We currently get about the same mileage. High 30's. I attribute that to my slightly more aggressive riding.
Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

1330's like 3500. Start there until you find your sweet spot. Whatever gear puts you there, will feel right. One gear up will cruise you in the 3000 range...but I find less power there. At 3500, its ready to get up and go.
I also have a simple rule...works most of the time. Use the gear that fits the speed range. 30's = 3 40's = 4 50's = 5 60's = 6

It is really amazing to me just how freakin' FAST these machines can move/take off at a moments command. I was passing a loooong semi/trailer on a back country road and had to downshift quickly and it scared the crap outta me.

A quick update, I have just entered negotiations with a local dealership. Problem is, doing all of this by email is sooooo slow. But with everything closed down, there is no big hurry.
