How do I access the fault codes on my 2017 RTL?
Check engine light + DPS warning on digital display. Also, I can not shift into first without standing on the brake. Shifting into reverse works.

Press mode, set and turn cancel buttons. All at the same time.

Turned on the bike and the check engine light was out. I did the simultaneous press of Mode - Set - main turn cancel button. The screen showed P0000. I figured the DPS had reset itself. Wrong. The next time I powered up, the check engine light was back. Again, Mode - Set - push in turn cancel. No codes were provided.
Looks like I will be transporting the bike to the dealer on Wednesday (the one and only Spyder Tech is on vacation until Tuesday) and Service says he is already booked up for the week. And, the weather just turned nice in this part of North Carolina. Luckily, I purchased a 3 year extended warranty when I bought the bike in June 2019.
Thanks anyway.

The P0000 code is a "blanket" code that, basically, says …"Something went wrong in the CanBus, but I have not a clue what it is." Usually shows up, when there is a glitch in communications. The reason you no longer see the code is it is no longer active -- as you can see from the fact that the lights now behave. I am a bit confused as to why you think the "check engine" light is a problem … are you referring to the engine icon that lights up when the bike is first powered up and then goes out when it starts? Are you having some problem with the bike that caused you to want to look at codes?
All the best ….. Ann

Just for the heck of it check your battery connections. Make sure they are tight.

After the engine starts, the "engine light" stays lit and the digital warning that shows a DPS problem flashes on and off at the bottom of the screen where the trip meter is.

No one can shift into first from neutral without applying the brakes. That has been a feature of the Spyders since 2008.

I peeled back the frunk liner only to find that the battery access panel appears to be secured by two Torx screws, of which I have none. Do you know what size I need? The manual did not specify.

Go to Harbor Freight. You can buy a whole kit with Torx, Phillips, and some other types for under $5.00 as I recall. That's what I did.

Thanks all. None of the Lowes Hdwe stores carry it any more. Harbor freight.
