I'm sitting in cold and windy Leavenworth Kansas right now, trying to find a happy place. Would love to hear someone describe spydering Big Sur, PCH, or Yosemite. What's it like?
Spydering in Cali is awesome! We had 62 degrees yesterday, and last weekend we rode the Foothills out side of Sacramento. PCH is amazing with views you can't believe. It should be on every ryders bucket list. Best to go during the week and avoid the tourist travel, but even then it is awesome from Morro Bay to Monterey you will be amazed!

Gotta agree with Pirate. Even though some folks like to complain about the place it has been mid 60’s the last two days and I’ve been out for 90 mins both days.
PCH is great. I did a 4 day trip with my brother in Oct. from Santa Rosa to Ft. Bragg which honestly is easily done in a day, so we just made Ft. Bragg our home and rode up and down the coast.

Its all good ( north of LA.) I cut my teeth motorcycling in California from the beach to the Sierra Nevada passes, but mostly the coast range. Had to get out though------ traffic, politics, the need to ski with out a 4.5 hour drive.

2014 RTS in Circuit Yellow, farkle-ing addiction down to once every few months. ECU FLASH IS GREAT.
You have to just come and do it. The california coastline is like nowhere else. It is amazing and interesting, beautiful and the greatest people along the way. You can hug the coast most all the way except the military sections but then you get to see all those little towns along the way....Come on down....

Leggett to Bodega Bay is a ride not to miss. It could be done in a day but better to take 2-3 and enjoy the scenery. Lots and lots of twisties that require full attention to navagate. Go slow and enjoy..... Jim

If you make it out this far , don't forget the Oregon Coast. It's a lot less crowded than California but one should try to make the entire ride if you can. We did the Tillamook to San Diageo coast ride 3 times three years ago and are going to do it again this summer. It's best if you can take your time and enjoy all the cool places . The redwoods are one of my favorite places to ride. Paul & Babe.jpg

Don't they have those "killer birds" in Bodega Bay?

That's where they were. We only saw Seagulls (flying rats). It is one of my favorite places. I could easily live there except for one little thing...... $$$$$$ It is a quaint little seaport/fishing town. Kinda like a mini-Monterey. A "must" place to stay..... Now I'm "California Dreaming"..... Jim

All good rides but my favorites was a loop we took when we had time off from our AF duties at Edwards AFB, Bouquet Canyon road Palmdale to Santa Clarita up to Castaic, then Lake Hughes Road to Lake Hughes, then home to the base. Just one of many but it was awesome on our crotch rockets of the early 80's. KZ650's, 900's, a buddy even had one of the triple 500cc 2 strokes.

Thanks to all for the imagery! Big Sur is on my ride list. Yosemite is on the wife's bucket list. May be a 2fer in the future. I read about riding the Oregon Coast in a back issue of Road Runner, that may become part of the dream.

I lived in Santa Clarita. Still own my home there, but now live in Wichita, KS.
I have ridden those roads hundreds of times! I also owned a KZ750 (same as the KZ650, just more cc's).
I hope your road more backroads than those you mentions. San Fransiquito road is one of my favorites. Also, ride up to Gorman and then go to Frazier Park. Turn at Lake of the Woods and go through Lockwood Valley to Cal 33. Go left at 33. Over the mountains to Ojai. Great ride.
Joe T. Oh yea we rode many, many a canyon run when I was there, I'm sure the guys that stayed continued on after I went to the FRG.
I too miss SoCal, but I really miss the early 80's SoCal....
I am now bummed to learn how close I was once to a NoCal ride that I didn't get. It made #10 on the MotorcycleRoads.com Top 100.
