BRP decided both the RS and RT engines should be the same and derated the engine and called it a 998. Bigger number, but it was derated. I have a '09, but it's a 900 and called a GS, the same year, some RSs were 998s. Confusing but true.
As far as I know, all RSs since that time have had the same engine, the 998. Nothing changed in '13 for the 998. The fact that they've discontinued the RS bears witness to the fact. BRP has moved to a new engine.
There are still squabbles out about the manual vs. auto shift. It depends on the rider's technique. There was a rider who was unbeaten on a GS SE5.
The last time there were drag races at Spyderfest, when the F3s first came out, there was no clock. A couple from Minnesota ruled the F3 races. It'll be interesting to see the times those two can do this year.
I have a GS and a F3. Two different beasts. I vote the GS all the way! The tale of the times will tell...
OK, these test and tunes are going to be a casual thing. There are electronics to tell the fastest time, and I need to separate all those times into different classes. GS/RS, RT, ST, F3 and two-wheelie. To further differentiate those classes into manual and auto will be tricky. I'm hoping when the winners are posted, they will say if they're SM or SE.
If anybody wants to correct anything above, feel free...
The GS and RS/RSS 08 to 12 have the 106 hp engine. The RT 10 to 13 have the 100 hp engine as do the RS/RSS 13 to 16...

Hi y'all, Want to thank everyone who helped me with '998 Engines 101.' I changed the classes to reflect engine performance and aerodynamics.
Would appreciate your input again on one more class....
.....Turbo / NO2 / Monster Tuned, Aussie Tuned, Tuned......
I know some of these mods are out there and would love to see them run down the track.
What would be a good descriptive name for this class?
I Googled and came up with Pro Street, well all our Spyders are street legal.... Pro?
Any advice is appreciated!

Joe, while Googling motorcycle classes, there are three classes that would fit Spyders.
Stock Street: nothing changed.
Modified Street: different pipes, air intake, minor alterations.
Pro Street: major alterations, turbo, NO2, tuned etc.

Trying to keep a level playing field here and doing it all with test and tune only.
Looking forward to seeing your stock Honda and see how it runs!
No worries about the pm. Hyper Spyder it is!

I'm afraid if you start having classes other than models you are opening a whole bag of worms. There is too many things that can be performance mods that you would have to have a team of Techs to determine the class. I doubt there is very many true stock Spyders on the road. I vote for keep it simple, if there is another class besides by model it should only include major mods like turbo/supercharger or NOS. Just my 2 cents.

Glad you brought this up. Being a test and tune, the classes have to be kept to a minimum. The GS/RS, ST, F3 classes are all stock / mods. The Ladies Class is all models, stock / mod.
I split the RTs into two different groups because of the different engines, both stock / mod classes. I haven't ridden either type of RT and don't know if there are any performance differences. If anybody has ridden both types of RTs, please chime in.
The Hyper mods are for all models. Re-tunes are being done. Welcoming anyone who's done it to go down the track and see their times.
I'm going to edit the first post to make things clearer.

Joy, so I don't have to go through the entire thread again, please explain what "hyper mod" means.
Thanks.

General mods may be mufflers, air filter/air intake, Power Commander, enhanced O2 sensor, etc.
Hyper, all models (Turbo, supercharged, NO2, Monster Tune, Aussie Tuned, Tuned).
The Hyper class has modifications via forced air induction, injecting extra oxygen into the cylinder, and rewiring the brains of the engine. These mods are a level above general and go faster.

Thanks for cheering me on. I'll be in the GS/RS class this time round.
The best I can do, is the best I can do. Just have to say that I do better than I used to at the races.
Hoping to win some grudge matches along the way.
Sad that I won't be seeing you this year...

Wow, might have to make last minute plans to go to Spyderfest. Don't want to miss out on all the fun. Rushing to finish my experimental V8 570HP Spyder RTL. Not sure which class I will be in but probably will win by only racing in idle. Right now I am wondering if the Kenda tire can handle the load. Well back to the shop (skunkworks) and get this project finished.

What rpm is best to come off the line on an F3's SE6.
I haven't had the chance to brake up to a specific rpm & verify the results. Stock 2015 /f3's SE6 with reflashed ECM--stock cat exhaust with chrome Akrapovic straight shot muffler.
thanks--don't plan on winning the drag race--just trying to do my best .

Uncle Jack, Crack the whip over the heads of those SkunkWork mechs to get your experimental RTL done in time for the races. Would love to hear the rumble of the V8 in your beast!

Darrell, Honestly I don't plan on winning in my class either, well maybe win a grudge match or two. The fun is going down the track, making better times with each run. Doing the best you can.
If you don't want to get in on the races, don't get a number on your windshield. Hubby isn't going to be in the races. He just wants to go down the track. If you're feeling good about the situation, you can get a number later. Only the times with windshield numbers will count for the races.
With the reflashed ECM, you'd be in the Hyper class. Don't know how many are going to be in that class, you never know...
