We may have mistakenly...
...put 20W50 Amsoil in a 2012 SE6 for an oil change. About 4.5 quarts of it... should we drain it and put in 10W40? Unsure about what to do....

It probably isn't totally necessary but, I would change it. Excessively thick oil can cause real problems and with cold weather coming, it will possibly not allow proper lubrication when starting a cold engine. If you are not ever going to ride it in the cold, leave it alone until next spring.

should not hurt a thing as long as the engine and gearbox are lubricated and the clutch doesn't slip. Oil viscosity isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be.

Ride it. It isn't going to hurt anything. As the oil level goes down in the 998 refill with the 10w40. You really will be just fine.

rcturner is right about cold weather starting but as far as lubrication is concerned 20 weight oil should not cause a problem until temps are at or below freezing starting should not be a big deal at most temps at or above freezing
-
20W50 is as viscous (flowable) as 20W at low temps and thickens to a 50W as temps rise. So you are starting your cold engine with what amounts to a 20W in it. No problem.

I'm with them
Your fine till your next oil change. I serviced bikes for years in Texas with 20/50w castrol and it gets cold there like in your neck of the woods. If it makes you feel better warm her up a few minutes longer....

It will not hurt anything, the lower viscosity is for cold weather. Unless you live in sub arctic weather you will have no problems..........
