10 THOUSAND MILES ON OUR ORIGINAL VIBRATION DAMPER
Wanted to let everyone know that we broke the 10,000 mile mark on the original (very first one) Vibration Damper. So far the only thing that needed replaced (at 8500 miles) was the $10 spring.
That arm shows no wear and was upgraded with a grease fitting and the inner pivot seal. It still has very tight tolerance (like new). The roller does show some scuffing, yet no real wear. The bearings actually roll smoother than when they were first put on (have got to LOVE that Japanese steel). It still has no play in it. I have no idea how long it will continue to roll, but we will continue the testing with this unit until it starts to show some wear.
When we started to develop these late last year, the roller and bearings were an unknown. However, I know how tough the roller blade bearings were on my blades (back when I was weighed a whole bunch less) and I figured they would thrive in a low pressure, high speed environment. I knew that the black base units were bulletproof. I thought the springs would work well in all applications and we had a few (less than 20 overall out of all sold) problems, mostly with RT's. We finally figured out that the RT's had more of a swing arm travel, which in some cases was causing the spring to fail. We increased the wire size and have yet to have one fail.
We have had 4 units that were not aligned correctly. Even though they were spaced evenly they were not true to the belt. As the belt moved, it caused the roller to want to try and roll off of the belt. It would slightly move to the side, then snap back and start to "walk off" again. This occurred over and over, wearing the pivot arm out.
Alignment with the belt is critical to the life of the unit.
Our last run of 100 units is almost completely done and will be done before Spyderquest in September. We will then be going to Maggie Valley in October. We will probably not have enough time to have another run until mid October. We will start running them again then. I would suggest that if you are going to be at either Rally and want a Vibration Damper installed, that you purchase ahead and make an appointment for the install. This will be first come first served. Just a heads up.
Kathy and I really appreciate all the sales and positive comments. Thank You!

i aligned mine and let it loose , started it and let it run at just above idle
to get the final setting. was this a good or bad idea? sounded good at the time.
when i put the new spring on a while back, there was no play in mine either.
getting close to 5000 miles. thanks doc.

Id like to be on th list please.
congrats on your milestone. If you divide your miles by the cost then it is an awesome upgrade. Smiles per Mile as the saying goes.
