i don't think 14.5 is that high, but i been wrong before!

around 14 volts is a good charging rate
-
now go check you car voltage it will be about the same..Its normal
-
14 volts is the proper voltage. Batteries always read more then they are rated for.

I checked the 2014 RT (same motor) service manual. When the motor is at 4000 RPM you should see the voltage between 13.5 to 14.5 VDC.

That may be true, but that's not the reason for the 14+ volts while running. To charge a battery you push current through it backwards, so to speak, so the charging voltage has to be higher than the battery's normal voltage. If the battery has 12.5 volts then 12.5 volts while charging won't push any charging current through.

When i installed the guage on mine I was a little surprised also by the running voltage of 13.8 to 14.2. However after some logical deductions and coming to the same conclusions expressed above, you and i should now just relax and enjoy the Ryde.

No to a trickle charger! Get a battery charger/maintainer like a Battery Tender. NAPA also has a good one. The charging current output should be something on the order of 1.5 to 3 amps.

No chargers.....
The tender is most mentioned but you need any that profess to maintain the battery. These will keep the battery at the ready but if there is a drain will not be able to charge the battery. For that you will need a charger be it trickle or full blown charger...

Hi to all. Just had a great day riding in gastonia nc and watching kids get toys from over 1000 bikers of all types. My first ride with them all and a well run program. Ran into some fellow spyder riders. I was told that a tender should be on my 2016 rts unit. I hoping someone can tell me a way to find this out without taking all my plastic off.?..

The tender won't be on your bike. A connector may be, if the dealer or previous owner put one on. Try a google search using the term "battery tender site:spyderlovers.com" (don't use the quotes) will take you to the several threads that have been written on the subject. Some use a fairly standard 2 wire pigtail as a connector, some use a cigarette lighter plug if one is available on the bike to connect the tender to the bike. I believe that the Deltran Battery Tender Jr is the standout in the tender market.

Speaking of battery tender I need to plug mine in haven't rode it in awhile and its going to snow today..Guess I am done riding for the season

I let the Spyder, and my Lawn Tractor share the Battery Tender Junior in the off-Season Months.
Typically; they each get to use it for about three weeks at a time.

The Spyder and my Honda Valkyrie share a tender at about 1 week a piece. The V-Max has a Shoria lithium batt that weighs nothing and stays charged for a few months. Wished they worked better on the With its constant slow drain.
