Removing stock whip antenna from 2015RTL

Have found an issue with removing the stock whip antenna. Some of the models had excessive locktite used on the nut at the base. I've used a proper size wrench, applied heat to soften up the locktite and a pair of neddle nose vise grips. No lock, any else have this issue?

No issue with my removal.
All I can think is to give the wrench a sharp tap to loosen things up.
Someone else might have a better solution.

Advice above good. Interesting how they went from no Locktite to too much. Just be careful with how much torque or pressure you use so that none of the parts get broken with the removal process.

A 7 mm deep socket will slide down over the antenna. However if it's not broken you have to use vise grips on the socket !!!!!...... not great........ Try squirting some Break-free or similar ( maybe Acetone ) down onto the base to see if this will loosen the Locktite .........Mike

I agree with the 7mm deep-socket...

Grab it with the biggest set of Vise-Grips that you can find, and just grit your teeth!

I eventually gave up and took it into the dealer. They worked at it for 15 minutes or so to find a wrench the right size that would fit down the hole ...

I replaced it with an invisible antenna I bought off of ebay. The AM/FM tuner works BETTER with this invisible one than the original one ...

The one I bought was a little less than $8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-AM...-/191922011751

I was able to use a small 9/32 open end at an angle to remove mine.

All sound good, did not try the acid tone, socket is next. The B-nut is so soft it'll round out easy. thanks again for the inputs, great help.

7 mm deep socket. Then grind flats on the top of the socket for better grip. Use this after heating the thread to soften the loctite. This is what the installers use to put the shorties on the RT's. Good luck..

Sounds like a great idea. Some questions: Where did you install the hidden antenna, I mean it is 6 feet long. Is it in fact hidden? Also, did you plug it directly into the radio, or did you have to come up with some sort of adapter to hook it up to the block that the OEM antenna screws into. And, what did you do about the hole in the Tupperware where the boot for the OEM antenna was? Any chance of some pictures?
