14 ST Limited Shock Upgrade?
If you had to upgrade your rear shock, what would you get? I've been looking around and see the Elka shocks but they list them as only going up to 2013. Is there really a difference in the 14 model year?

I got my front shocks at Spyderfest. The installer said the rear shock does not need to be upgraded. The one thats there is good enough. I am very happy with the Elka stage 1 front shocks. They made a world of difference.

As far as the front shocks go, you need to call them and discuss what you need. What type of driving you do, How much you weigh...
They build the shock thats right for you as an individual. In my case I am heavy and was bottoming out a lot. At first he sold me the stage 2 but did not have them in stock for my ST limited. He later got me a set of stage 1 and fitted them with the right springs and adjusted them, and installed them for free. If you call them they will build them and ship them to you. They are not hard to install. He could install them without removing any tupperware, You may need to remove some if you have trouble with the top bolt.

We're happy with the Fox fronts but the rear needs a stiffer spring for us.

I am heavy enough, but found it very difficult riding 2 up with my wife because the weight limit on the ST limited is 459 pounds payload and we were way over the limit. If you exceed that limit, you start having trouble in several areas, control, braking...Its just more work than it is fun to drive an overloaded spyder. To solve that problem She bought her own bike. You can also move up to an RT. I dont know what the limit is but it is higher. Read about weight limits on page 85 of your owners manual.

From the owners manual, page 85
Excess weight will
-Reduce your ability to accelerate, brake and turn.
-Reduce the effectiveness of the VSS
-Increase the risk of rolling over if the weight is high or towards the rear.
-Reduce the ground clearance, increasing the risk of striking low obstacles or uneven road surfaces.
-Increase the risk of tire failure.

We're nowhere near the max but when you look at what's left for shock shaft showing, there isn't much travel left. I found out that Elka's shock does go out to the 14 year so we'll be good to upgrade.

There is travel left but when you hit a decent bump it's a pretty good spine shot so you can tell it's bottoming out.

Does anyone know if Elka supplies a SAG dimension with their shocks? Something like 2" of SAG at rear when sat on? Or do you just install it like they set it up and you never touch it?
