Now I find out
So for over 1 year & 2500 miles I've been holding that ECO/Mode button down all the while the safety messages flash across across the screen & NOW I learn all I had to do was push the button once---No wonder it's been a pain in the As*. Gots to love this forum.

There's a real easy solution: sell the bike, and get something else to be miserable over.
Thanks for the tip Bob, now I know it's only your issues that are important

There is a way that this can be by-passed and is accomplished via the BUDS.
It is done by bypassing/disabling the security system.
Once accomplished, you turn the key and hit the start. No more DESS errors and instant start.
Hope to have mine "bypassed" at Red Rock Spyder Rally

If anyone has mastered removing the start delay--please advise--I have read the warning on the left service panel & while my memory isn't the greatest I don't need that 3-5 second delay.
Thank you kindly for any assistance,

I don't think that is correct. You will still have to press the mode button even after the DESS has be disabled. Since you have a 2014 model that means waiting for the message to appear.
Let us know what happens after you have the DESS disabled.

In the UK that would invalidate my insurance - an immobilisor is a requirement. I would have to fit an aftermarket immobilisor to replace the DESS if I disabled it.
Do you have security requirements quoted in US insurance agreements?

I cannot vouch for all states, but in Texas, we call the immobilizer device the ignition key and handle bar lock. If that is not sufficient, a nearby .380 usually is. In reality, the DESS does very little beyond what the bar and ignition lock already does and is easily bypassed.

I totally agree.
TOTALLY
With the advent of key cloning, the only thing the DESS system does is create another failure mode
If it ain't broke, don't break it.

OK, to work throught that:
1. I never flick the red run switch to turn off the bike. I use the key. So my run switch is already in the on position when I switch on with the key. That may have an impact as you're turing on with the key and then putting the red switch to run. May add a delay?
2. You say you're pressing the ECO switch for 1 second, again that's not required. Just a quick press and release is all that's needed. Then hit the starter.
So to go through the order:
1. Make sure run switch is on
2. Turn key to on
3. Quick press on ECO/Mode
4. Hit starter
It should start immediately.

LOL!! I like the .380!! Guns are not allowed as part of any anti theft strategy here. Well, not allowed at all.
I did wonder because I have noticed there's not much anti theft on US vehicles. We have a lot. As I have no garage I had to have a tracker fitted to get theft cover on my insurance. All UK vehicles have alarms/immobilisors as standard and the more exotic stuuf has to have higher spec units to be covered by insurers.
We had a real problem with theft for joy riding in the 90s and that led the push to standard fit immobilisors. Insurance for some performance cars here in the 90s could be more than the value of the car. It was a mad time. Not nearly as bad now.
So this DESS key thing is normal here. What isn't normal however, is all the problems. It's rare to have issues with keys with chips in them on any other vehicle.

After thinking about what you said, you may be ABSOLUTELY correct.
I could not find the original post regarding changing the software.
But will definitely let peeps know.
