DESS Error Code STRIKES
Hello SpyderLovers:
I am adding my frustration to the pool of 2015 RTL Spyders experiencing a DESS Key Code ERROR!
That's right. I got to my barn today and go to start the bike up to move it so we can get rid of some old hay and it won't start at all. Look down at the instrument cluster and see the orange message DESS KEY CODE ERROR! Are you kidding me? This new bike only has 800 miles on it. Good Grief! So...I pull the key out and wait until the digital display turns off. Re-insert the key wait for it's normal routine, pressed MODE and it fired up. Got this message two other times.
Now I have read most of your postings and the "Theory" of KEY FOBS in pockets at the time of the DESS ERROR. I got news for everyone, I only own 1 vehicle with an electronic remote key function- and I don't carry it on me unless I am driving that car. SO- NO reason for the DESS KEY CODE ERROR!
So...any thoughts? I never had to walk away from the bike and come back. I stayed sitting on the bike, removed the key, waited for the display to shut off and simply tried it again and it worked EACH TIME!
Maybe BRP reading all these posts might just come across an answer for us. This NEVER happened on our 2012 RTS- SE5 Spyder.
Stay cool. KS is sitting at 112 Heat index today! OUCH!

Get up with Spydercodes. Sorry that your scooter's a no go. Took a little ride this AM, mowed the lawn and then played in the pool. Life is good.

Thank you Bob
Thanks Bob, I'll call them tomorrow down in Springfield. Len and the gang should know what has to happen to fix this. BRP definitely has an issue with this feature for some reason.
Kind of makes me wonder too if my Position Sensor is going to be next, but when I was down at Spyderfest they checked my VIN# and said I was NOT part of the "recall" or Service Bulletin on them. Of course things could have changed by now but who knows.
Hate to travel 3 hours back down to them but that said, if I was a little closer to 1000 miles I'd get my first oil change done. I know they say you don't need to but they suggested when I bought this new one that you ought to do it sooner especially after breaking in the engine. SO we will see.
BTW- sorry I didn't get to meet you at Spyderfest. Heard you were there but never crossed pathways. I did get to meet finally Cruzr Joe and his wife.
Thanks again and take care!

If you were at one of Joe's parties: I was probably out in the parking lot!
It's a shame that we didn't meet.
Did you get a chance to try the jerky?

Sorry to hear you had the DESS key code, When you are at Pitbulls ask them to OPEN UP A CASE WITH BRP, it is under warranty.
I have a thread going titled "D.E.S.S. KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" on that thread their is some excellent info to take with you to the dealership. Please post the dess module part # on my thread.
I have a 2014RTS-SE6 and I have the dess module replaced twice( 1st time: on July 14,2015, 2nd time was on Aug. 28th, 2015, also my dealership replaced the switch on that same day Aug. 28th,2015).
Good Luck!

This DESS crap is about as old as tires
If it's that big of an issue which it is from all the posting
BRP needs to get off their ass and do something about it

I just had the same problem about an hour ago on my 2014 ST-S. Went to move it and got the D.E.S.S logo. It took me about 5mins. before mine started. I'm going to call my dealership tomorrow and hope that they have the part when I take it in for service on Thursday.

I've gone 7000 miles and never had a DESS error, except when I intentionally created one.
I've never had one either, in nearly 22,000 miles, so maybe I'm out of the woods?
Curious, how to you intentionally create a DESS error?

Place another chip key next to the one in the ignition when you turn it on. A Spyder key will do it probably every time. One of my Nissan keys did it a time or two. Both keys get activated by the signal from the antenna and the codes they transmit get jumbled together, I guess. The DESS can't decipher the jumbled code.
A magnet next to the key, and an ac motor next to the key did not cause a DESS error. A handheld CB in transmit mode also did not create one. I tried several channels. I haven't tried any other type of EMF source.

Hi Elembytes,
You can send us your VIN and preferred servicing dealer at brp.care@brp.com and we can work with the dealer to get this sorted out for you. We can also check if there are any pending recalls or service bulletins to perform on your vehicle.
Thanks,
Steve

. Steve I personally want to say Thanks for getting back IN on this issue ............Please ignore the Naysayers who have no comprehension of the word " EMPATHY " ...... I know BRP is working on this issue, it's unfortunate sharing information is not something that is possible for a lot of valid reasons......................Mike

My first dess module was replaced @ 6,994 miles on Jul 14,2015 and the 2nd dess module replaced @ 8,740 miles. It will be a year in Aug. since I have not had the dess error show up.
Also, I do park under telephone wires, and carry my cell phone in the trunk.
Ask mike( Blueknight911) about the 710004916 dess module. That he has in spyder. Deanna
