Got caught in a heavy rain storm yesterday. What is the best way to treat windshield and helmet visor? Couldn't see a damn thing. Will RainX hurt the windshield?
there is a rain-x special for plastics so beware...anti fogging products for closed helmets or spit if nothing handy I don't have a windshield that you look through so not a problem there and find that the helmet clears by turning you head to the side and let the wind blow it off. Then there are some downpours that your best just getting out off...

I look over the windshield when I'm caught in the rain; one less rain-streaked mess to deal with!
As far as my visor: I just stick my head out around the side of the windshield, and turn the melon sideways. The rain is blown clear of it in about a second!
No special chemicals are needed!
Rain-X does have a product for plastics and it works well. I rode six hours in the rain heading to Florida. You can get the Rain-X for plastics at Walmart, but it is not on the shelf with the original Rain-X, so you will have to hunt for it.

We bought the Rain X for plastic and I used it once but I didn't really care for it. I'm with Bob on this one - ride so you can see over your windshield and let the wind keep the water off your helmet. You may need to crack your face shield a tad to keep it from fogging up.

I bought the new Rain X and it works great, but, my experience was that it's a bit difficult to get it wiped off so that it's clear. Well worth the effort. Another thing I use is car wash with wax, eliminates the need for rain x , water beads up and blows off. Also, it's not a bad idea to look over the windshield, especially in the rain.

If you get the angle of your helmet JUST right; water will not find it's way up through that small gap...
I use a product called "ALL KLEER" .. use it on visors & windshields... cleans, repels water, polishes plus it inhibits fogging.... formulated for plastic..

I use FW1. It is an all surface cleaner wax. I use it on my wind shield and helmet shield after everylong ride. This product is excellent for removing the bugs and it beads the water.

I bought Rain-X for Plastic too. It works great for beading the water away, but... It beads the water straight up and over the TOP of the windshield, and right into my face! Sorta negates the function of the windshield keeping me dry. So I haven't yet put any on my NEW windshield, and haven't yet decided whether to do it.

For those of you that run a F4 Customs windshield you can use Rain X if you like however the shield has a built in Rain Shedding. With the F4 (if the rain shedding is not enough) you can take rubbing Alcohol or White Vinegar with paper towels and clean both sides and the rain shedding will snap right back.

I'm not defending the Rain-X for Plastic, which I have used once, but it isn't the product that beads the water over the top of the windshield, it's the bloody wind. Any product that beads water will let the wind deliver the same result.

I have found that in a torrential downpour you have to be going a certain speed for water to blow up and off the windscreen. If you are going 30 mph, best be looking over the windshield. I ride with an open face helmet and wear glasses (usually sun glasses) and have to take them off and squint through the rain.

You can use RainX . But you must clean the windshield or visor, then use Meguiar's PlastX, after buffing let the PlastX dry for 20 minutes, then put the RainX on a rag (just moistion) and let the rag sit for 5 minutes. then apply and buff. I just got rained on Friday and had no problem seeing. If you need any further information PM me. That's IMHO.
