Pot Hole Breeding Season in Michigan
Our dirt roads are now In Rut while their pot holes lustfully multiply unchecked until the county graders resurface from hibernation next Spring. So, alas, after one last valiant, land-mine-dodging trek to the nearest pavement for our final (freezing) 2016 ryde, my beloved road warrior, Spyke, has settled into her den with a tummy full of premium petrol and a nightcap of Stabil. She reluctantly passes the baton to her stablemate, Polly the Polaris, who chomps at the bit to bulldoze her mistress over, under, and through terrain that Spyke can only shudder to imagine. Sleep well, my princess. Don't fight the battery tender which tethers your wings to the earth. We shall fly again someday.

Your county repaves roads in the Spring? I'm jealous. Here they wait until the Fall to repave. That way the roads are good maybe a couple of months before the salt and trucks start to destroy them again.
There are some days I really hate the Northeast.

No repavement, they just grade the dirt/gravel roads. I live on and am surrounded by non pavement.

The county owns my dirt road but they don't do any maintenance. It's up to the property owners

During my travels for vocational expeditions, I was always amazed by the number of unpaved roads in Michigan. Most people would not understand your comments, but I can appreciate it.

I thought snow and ice was Mother Natures way of filling the pot holes. Generally works until spring around here.

Wouldn't they want a little privacy, for that sort of thing?
They've got all night. With just about zero traffic.

I was amazed too, when we first moved here from upstate NY which had plenty of unpaved roads, but they were made of shale, which could be highly unstable on the hills as it crumbled beneath you, and ultimately very irregular in surface contour . I was thrilled at the dirt roads around here because they're far superior for horsebacking, despite the occasional top dressing of gravel which makes it miserable for the first year until it packs into the dirt, and forever after unpleasant for a week or so following each grading.
