Default Does IPOD in trunk connected to Audio Input draw power when bike is off?

OK, I forgot to remove my IPOD (connected with the Factory adapter) in the trunk when I put my Spyder RT Limited in winter storage.

Does it draw any power at all while the bike is shut down?
It's stored in a environmentally controlled locked storage unit that's not easy to access until spring...

The iPod is powered and charging while your ignition is on. When off no power goes to the iPod and if you don't power it down, its battery will go dead over the winter. The spyder battery is safe.

Thanks, I wasn't even thinking about that IPOD battery, so concerned with the Spyder's battery.
Guess I gotta go get back in the storage unit.

Youngers, I'd aim to just clear the end of its tail with my front right - assuming the oncoming lane is clear, of course!!

If you can, always try to evade behind an 'animate obstacle' or human controlled obstacle - that way, at least they hafta turn before they grab or hit you!! You might get as much as a whole extra second to get past safely!

As for putting Spyders into storage, that doesn't happen here either, altho I gotta admit that I almost didn't ride today, the local temps were expected to be quite high, & ended up just topping 40 deg C! And that meant that, as expected, the Brown Snakes & Tiger Snakes were out frolicking on the blacktop (late spring friskiness, it's been too wet for them up until just recently!!) Despite the 'old school' practice of trying to kill them that way, you really hafta try to avoid running over snakes here, even their tails, cos if you get a tire on them pretty much anywhere they can flick up & will get angry, very angry; then they can wrap around axles etc, & just hang around waiting for a chance to bite - & a bite from either of those types of snakes pretty much means curtains unless you can get antivenine into you in sufficient quantity within about 15 minutes - and most of my ryding is somewhat more than an hour from the nearest hospital or ambulance; that is if there is even any telephone service to call for help in the first place!!

Enjoy your winter, we are starting to get the HOT weather now!

Ipod or not, the spyder battery is not going to last the winter in storage without a battery maintainer connected. It will go dead in a few weeks. The Spyder computer draws a small amount of power continuously.

The ipod is not draining on the Spyder battery when the Spyder is not running. If you have not disconnected the Spyder battery then most likely it will be dead by the time you take it out in the spring anyway. The Spyder's on board computer alone will keep a continuous drain on the battery enough to have it go dead over several months. I even notice a lag in the starter when my Spyder has not been running for a few weeks so it will definitely go dead over the winter. My suggestion is if the storage unit has an electrical outlet then pick up an intelligent trickle charger. A decent one will run around $100. If there is no place to plug in a trickle charger then I would suggest disconnecting the battery all together. Hope this helps.

Default You may have missed it....

There are no end to the posts and threads on battery maintainers and their impostance when storing a spyder over the winter. Options are, a battery tender, disconnecting the battery, and or taking it home for the charging. The RT have a lot of controling stuff so they for sure will need help over the winter...

Is the audio plug in the trunk on the same circuit with the dc outlet? I have changed my fuse to make the dc outlet hot all the time and I was wondering if that made the ipod hot all the time too. If it does and the ipod is plugged in, then it would be drawing off the battery. I didn't even think about that...does anyone know ?

Thanks all for all the inputs, Have removed and brought home the IPod, disconnected the battery, brought home the GPS as I've purchased Lifetime Maps updates for it, and gave one last longing look at it there in the dark.... sniff

Tmcquain, No, in my case at least, the IPod was only hooked up to the Audio Input side jack with the factory connector cable, the 12v jack (though set as always hot) didn't have anything in it. But I've also discovered through posts here that I need to disconnect my battery or have it on a Battery tender all winter storage season long. Both of my old bikes used to sit in the same storage all winter and started up 1st time every spring without battery tenders connected (though I had the connectors attached just in case.... (but they were standard cycles without the Spyder's computer system, I know now, I know...

I thought I heard somewhere, that your four Seasons in Minnesota are:

There are really only two; winter and road repair.

I served 14 years at Altus AFB, OK, they only had two seasons, wet and green (end of April - June), then dry and brown, late June through Mid April.
I love looking out at Green, Green grass as the snow falls and covers it up.... and Fall colors on the trees (I get a color tour out my windows, don't need to go on a road trip for just that), Oh yea, when Minnesotan's say it's sweltering hot, they mean high 80's, not the triple digits of Tx with 89% humidity...

Dave, I always pull my batteries and charge them inside. If a battery gets low, it can freeze (in Minnesota they can) and then it is game over for it. Being I have several of them, it is just easier to pull them and keep an eye on them from an inside room.
