Default Update on High Mile RT-S

On an unusually warm November day in Ohio I was able to see my odometer
turn over 6 digits, 100,000 miles. I wanted to do it yesterday because it was a record high,
but because we have snow in the forecast for today, Saturday. Now I get to start on my second 100.
It took me 2 years, 5 months and 5 days to get the first.

    Safe rides to all!

Tell us how to do it and what to expect. 100,000 on my GS and it will be an antique vehicle. Good news in that money put in the bike is a value both in pleasure and if in stock for value for resales.

Imat 95,000 on my 14RT and all I have done is normal maintenance. I typically ride on high speed roads pulling a loaded trailer. Just ride yours and keep it maintained and you'll be fine.

Insights? Not too much to be concerned with. Just like a car engine, no valves to adjust, no carburetors to tune,
nothing. I change oil every 7500 miles. I've always used the BRP XPS oil. Why change brands if what you use works?
Forget the Kenda OEM tires. I rode this machine 8,930 miles in July. When new I was getting 5800 from a rear Kenda,
I can't afford to change a rear tire every 3 weeks. Same with the front tires. I have a set of Kumho KH16's on the front
    155-60-15 I had put on May 5th, now with 43,000 miles plus. A Kumho KH16 215-60-15 rear that lasted 20,1230. I now
run a General Altimax RT43, just to see if it's better than the Kumho. Funny, After over 100K I'm still trying to find
the best tires. I change spark plugs and air filter every spring. I still use OEM items. Same drive belt, that surprised me,
never had a belt, just chains and shafts.
It still shifts and sounds like a new one.
A great machine, well made and dependable. And I do know my motorcycles.

Anything else and I'll be happy to inform.
I'll be sending pictures as soon as I can figure out how to do it.
    Safe miles!

    Chuck

    Default Thanks!

Great post. Congratulations on the 100k.

Just got my 15 RTS and looking for many miles... it helps to know that regular maintenance is basically all you had to do... and the info on the tires will definitely help when time comes to get the Kendas off.....

Now Buckeye is in Zanesville and has the Triple Nickel at his backdoor. I bet he rides that to the Ohio river and back all the time. What a great road. In fact SE Ohio has great riding roads all over.

This observation comes from a guy who can see the start of Skyline Drive from my front porch. I ride the backroads of SE Ohio whenever I can.

That's some big mileage, good luck with the next hundred thou.
