    Default Spyder Key question

Is it okay to drill a hole in Spyders key I am planning to attach a keyring and the dealer told me to not trust it to the key protectet. Is there a sensor inside the key?

    Default You can....

But you need to know exactly where. It does have a chip and if you do a search here there are some that explained how to. There are some nice holders out there that are secure and good looking and require no drilling. Check our vendors or I have seen them on Ebay as well...

You can do it, but you better do ir right, or it's gonna be a costly mess.
there are several different key thingy's out there for the spyder. And from what I have heard
about how frail the ignition switch is anyway, I would have nothing but the key ring hanging there. (no keys)

I have the key by itself. Nothing connected to it. Same with my car. Don't like to have anything connected to my bike or car keys.

I have never heard of the sheath failing. Has anyone heard of a failure? I have used mine for almost 3 years and 37,000 miles.
    Good luck,

    Default Key Sheath

I have been using them for a couple of years on two keys. Never had a moment's problem. I think the person at the dealer doesn't know what they are talking about. My dealers service people think they should be carrying it.

I've drilled the keys on my RS and now my F3S.

if you take a small punch or straight pen, you can push it through the rubber at the top, center of the key where the black and grey meet; there's already a hole there, so essentially you're just drilling the rubber out of the way.

There is a locksmith advertised here, based in Kansas City, Mo. that uses a unique key blank with the Can-Am chip and a key ring hole. Overall price similar to dealer key.

I have the info out in my bike, if you need it and can't find it, I'll go out and get it.

My wife and I also use the key sheath that comes with the Spyders and neither of us have had a problem. I read a lot on here and have for a few years and cannot recall ever hearing of any body loosing a key from the sheath. So I too would love to hear any body that has.

I drilled a hole at the very top like others and still works. Thanks all.
