Oh yeah!!!!! They usually disappear through a dimensional barrier, never to be seen again!!!!! Even searching with a magnet cannot locate the dang things!!!!!
Oops, sorry Bob, I did not notice your "alternate dimension" comment before I posted. I should have read all the replies.
Especially on a spyder....have learned to plug up all openings with shop towels when working on them..and though through the years I have accumulated enough spares the doubt remains... will it rattle it's way down and fall out the back onto the belt...

Oh yes, at the very least they will roll to the exact center underneath the nearest object where they will be just out of reach from any angle.
In relation to Murphy's Law, I read something very similar to this as being one of Murphy's Axioms of auto repair - the bolt, nut, washer or tool you drop will find it's way to the geographical center under the vehicle.
I think all the bolts, screws, nuts, and washers we have lost must be at the same place all those dang socks go.....

I can relate..Theory is once you remove a nut, bolt or screw, and it drop or falls, it is made to vanish or disappear once they make contact to any floor or ground. why, they are just made that way..
Look at the phenomena as a blessing.
Just think of all the "Bits and Parts" you don't have to waste
time searching for or bending over to pick up. They're gone.
That alternate universe must be filling up with lost Spyder bits..
I had taken the the Tupperware off the other day, when I went to put everything back together I dropped one of the torx screws....I looked and looked, could not find it. Backed it up a few feet, still didn't see it. Finally just sat down to calm down take a swig of a diet Dew and there it was on the inside of the rim. Keep in mind I rolled it back 3 feet or so...it must have hung in there like a gerbil on his wheel...

Nope, I know where our missing socks used to go .... Hazel, our dachshund (may she RIP), would steal them and use them to sleep on. Had quite the collection at one time!
All the best .... Ann

One day I was making a good sized bushing, about 2" x 2" out of aluminium stock. While taking it out of the chuck I dropped it on the floor. I looked for two hours and could not find it anywhere ! I had to make another, and never did find the other. So, it's not only he small stuff. I also have a coffee can with the screws, nuts and minor things I had left after severe maintenace......
One of the shops that I frequent has a resident pig (pet). Pig needs to be watched because of tool and part theft.

They would, Bob, but that danged pig weighs more'n a full pallet load of scrap iron & rattles with each step it takes, making the ground shake - so no-one's game to even suggest approaching it with a knife (& who knows, it might get hungry when it sees one!) & bullets just ricochet off it like they've hit an armoured steel door!!
Mebee an electro magnet would slow it down, but it's so danged heavy the last time they tried the crane jib threatened to bend & topple when they tried lifting....
Besides, you might hurt your teeth chewing on bacon from that pig!!
