Default There are a lot of legitimate complaints about dealers but!!!

Just curious if its fare to ask them to install parts you buy from someone else? Especially if they sell said parts.
I can see if its a Baja swaybar unless they sell them.
I would never bring a steak to a restaurant and ask them how much to cook it for me.

Default I appreciate my local dealer and buy parts from him as needed,

But I also buy parts from BajaRon, oil from Walmart and other accessories online as they catch my eye or show good value! All you can do is ask, and I wouldn't get bent out of shape if my dealer refused to install aftermarket parts (whether for liability reasons or just per their choice). I appreciate local merchants and their ability to provide convenient service is part of my Value equation. Fremont Motorsports installed the Garmin 660 that I carried in when we purchased the wifes new RTS last year as well as the NOCO Genius trickle charger/maintainer that I bought from them.

Do I expect them to install other aftermarket parts? No, but I also appreciate the expertise they and their tech Isaac provide, as well as their value in the service and sales departments.

The dealer I purchased my Spyder from told me they'd install whatever I brought in or, if I wanted they'd order from the source as necessay. Of course I'd have to pay labor but in some cases they might be able to beat price if they ordered vice me doing it.

If you know what your dealer sells then you should try to buy from them if they will be installing it but I doubt they'd turn you away or be offended if you don't.

i bring wine to restaurants and expect to drink it there, even though they sell wine.

Sure, I pay a corkage fee, so it's not like they're doing it for free (just like the shop still charges me labor, even though I supply the parts.)

    What's the difference?

P.S. They certainly do have the right to refuse to do it, however most seem to want the money...

I've read some lengthy complaints about Corbin installs done by the dealerWith no real resolution as the customer gets stuck with it all in the end.
The BILL plus the headache Best to have a good dealer you an trust first, & never hurts to ask them first. Get details lined out, & smooth appointment times so not to interfere with there preferred billing jobs.

Maybe that works for you but I took friends to the Ruth's Chris here in town and they refused to open the Bud Light bottles that we brought in with us, hey the cardboard cases were clean and unopened until we were seated!

    Default Good Dealer

The mark of a good dealer is, they will install anything for you. It is called providing a service. I am blessed with such a dealer.
If I can't fix it, I will fix it so no one can fix it. Sypder Loco!

Bringing in your own parts is a two edged sword.

I regularly install parts customers bring to my shop. They pay me to install them. Service rendered.

If the part subsequently fails, unless its an installation error, the warranty is with the company they purchased the parts from. Most will not cover the cost of removal and reinstall.

If a part is purchased from me, I handle the warranty and the rework to install.

    Default Depends....

Your service dept idealy should make money for your dealership. Most will state that they did not supply the parts installed and therefore are not liable for them. Most shops will install them, if allowed, to keep up revenue for lost customers due to moving changing dealers or doing their own work. They can not be hard nosed if you find a better deal on parts and at least get some income from installing them. Many draw the line when they are used parts....
