Spyder 1, Deer 0
After riding motorcycles for probably 200K miles, it has finally happened.
On my way to work, 5AM, 40 degrees out, I hit a deer.
The deer went down and under just left of center. I was on the brakes hard; I remember steering to keep the bike straight with the braking force. The left front went airborne, and I actually remember seeing the the wheel and fender as it climbed up and over. The bike slammed down, and that was it.
Of course, all of this happened in about 1 second. Talk about temporal distortion!
Fortunately, 2 weeks ago I installed the new Rivco bumper for the RT. It let the nose go over the deer without touching the bodywork. I think it might have bent the left bumper support some. I haven't had a chance to measure it. But not a scratch on the Tupperware!
Boy am I glad to be at work this morning!!

Thanks! I hate to think what would've happened had I been on two wheels. Based on how I hit it, it probably would've knocked me down at a minimum.
What's funny is, I am so attentive to deer. Put a saw horse in your front yard when I drive by and watch by brake light! But both times I've hit them, once with an F150 pickup and now the Spyder, I didn't stand a chance! Over in the blink of an eye.

I agree. I'm seriously thinking of keeping it parked in the mornings, now with rutting and hunting season approaching.

Glad you are ok, that is one of my biggest fears. I guess that is one of the many reasons for a Spyder over a leaner, At least you have a little better chance.....
Keep all 3 down !!!

The Rivco bumper took the force of the blow. It mounts with what looks like 3/16th inch steel. It actually bent the steel a little bit on the side of the nose that hit the deer. You can see that the bumper is a little high now on the left side. Other than that, I see nothing else wrong. I drove another 15 miles to work, and everything was just fine.

Glad to hear you got through the collision with the deer. Many are not that lucky. can be fixed.
A couple years back I had an encounter with a huge dog that came up out of a ditch with no warning. Oncoming semi truck, so no choice but to hold on and hit the dog broadside. The dog (a large one) flew up and over, and was killed in the process. About $2,500 damage to the cosmetic parts on the front of the . No frame or running gear issues.

Good luck with your undercarriage investigation: let us know what you find.

Glad you are okay. Be sure to look underneath and check your frame, it doesn't seem to take much force to bend them.
