1500 CC ???
Was just about to get on my spyder today when a chap came over to ask me questions, I thought, instead he proceeded to tell me that BRP are coming out with a 1500 cc engine, has anyone else herd this.

Rotax (owned by BRP) already has higher cc engines available.. They are just used for their other products , not Spyders and clearly will not be in 2017 product line already announced.. In the future - who knows??

The rotax 1503 triple makes 155hp NA and 260hp with a supercharger stock. Yes, either configuration would be a big improvement in power.
Highly doubt they would ever make it to the Spyder though.

I believe that those are currently being used in personal watercraft?
And to that point...

You answered my question before I was done typing it?
Are you a mind reader?
(Mine's like a comic book; isn't it?)
Seriously: there'd probably be a lot of re-tuning necessary to fatten-up the power delivery, and you'd lose some of that great peak horsepower along the way...

Obviously you might not see the same numbers, however, That's the beauty of forced induction. You could put the power anywhere you want. Guys push 300+hp easily and reliably on the water. Street would be even better/easier.
The problem is direct drive vs. transmission.

I actually believe that cost considerations would have any initial offering be a naturally aspirated version.
-
BRP's target spyder audience isn't into it though (performance). It's all about bags, lights, trailers, etc.
The watercraft industry is completely different, being more performance driven. So, while it "could" be done, it likely won't. I think the best you'll see for quite some time may be a few improvements to the existing 1330.

As I've said before, put a drive shaft on the RT with the 1330, and it will be close to perfection

nobody right now to really compete with. so as a business stand point it wouldn't be good for them to come out with anything crazy for the spyder. when other companies start joining the 3 wheeler market and brp has competition then you will see power and performance grow.
just my opinion.

Current 1330 compression is 12:1 . That compression would need to be lowered to run anything over 6 psi or engine damage--head valve seats-etc will happen.... Plus the higher the RWHP the more other drive components need to be beefed up--it's endless--I need C16 fuel=$18/gal plus retarding the top rpm end timing by a few degrees with lower compression pistons--reinforced rods--heavy valve springs--to run 14-15 psi turbo boost on a 1298cc Suzuki engine---currently 343 rwhp with 212# torque=need to feather the throttle in 1st & 2nd gear==3rd is like being launched by a rubber band---did I mention a Robinson re-built transmission.==bring $$$$.
Jet Ski can have high HP spinning a small propeller---not the same as a large wheel--torque stuff.

I noticed the Can Am Maverick X3 has a Rotax 900 ACE engine putting out 154hp. Damn, why isn't that in a new RSS........oh that's right...BRP doesn't make those anymore. Well, then why isn't that engine in the new Daytona F3..........oh that's right BRP thinks just adding some cool graphics and colors adds performance.

Erm...this Spyder rider is into performance and I'm sure I'm not the only one. However you don't necessarily need more CC for that.
The 1330 does seem to be the wrong starting point for performance judging by its current figures.
Now an RS Mark II with a supercharged 1500cc would be interesting:-)
