    Default Gear Brake

I just put one of these on my 2012 RT, mounts near the battery. Hard part was getting it level. The plug and play is great. Road test to follow. Brake light modulator and decelerometer for $99.

Something that I think I'll do, as well. Seems like a great idea. Looking forward to hearing how well it works.

Most likely needs level as it has some type of mercury switch similar to what is used in your thermostat for your heat/ air conditioning in your home.

It plugs directly into the brake light harness. On the 2012 it was under the left passenger grab handle.

Update, I have the Gear Brake installed on my 2014 Suzuki V Strom as well. Very easy install and tried it earlier today, works as advertised!

    Question GearBrake

I just bought one of these to put on my '15 RT. Which panel(s) need to be removed?
    Any hints, tips, or advice?

    Thanks!

No mercury is used, this is a soild state device. Place the unit as level as possible to insure the proper accel/decel signals.

You could place the unit straght up and down if you wanted to signal during a over turn siti.

    Good Luck

    Question GearBrake

Ok, as installs go, that was a piece of cake. Where and how did you mount and level the accelerometer module? I'm not particularly thrilled with the way mine's mounted.

I just got mine in the mail, what panels do I have to remove ? 2015 RTS....I thought it went next to the tail light, took all that off only to see the plug was wrong. Emailed Gearbrake and they said it was under the seat. There are 2 plugs under there. Can you tell me which one it is and how you got to it ?

    Thanks

As stated on my 2012 the plug was under the left side passenger grab handle. The plug should match the plug on the unit.

OK got it...thanks for the help ! On the 15, it is in a little compartment that the rear seat sensor wire goes through, I was able to pull it out and d/c and add the unit without removing a screw or anything...

    Tim -

Yup, it's under the seat on the port side. I lucked out, I just raised the seat and fished around with my index finger through the hole in the black plastic panel that sits between the spine and the outside panel. I came out with one plug and some wires, and, thankfully, it was the right one. I imagine the Gear Brake wouldn't mate up to whatever that second plug/wires goes to. Grab one, plug it in and try it by stepping on the brakes. If it works, you got it right!
I then used some Velcro with adhesive backing and I stuck a little bubble-level to the top of the Gear Brake module and did the same to stick the Gear Brake module to a half of a rubber doorstop. I moved the rubber doorstop around (forward and back) on that black plastic panel with the hole in it that the wires came out of to get it level. Finally, I anchored the whole assembly in place. Getting it level was the hardest part. I found that when it was even slightly off level, it drove my buddies behind me insane.

    Good luck!

    Rob

Easy Peasy install for the GearBrake on my '15 RT-S. left side, pulled the panel just inside the PX grab bar. there are two plugs, but only one (The forward one) will work. Hooked it up, mounted the accelerometer vertical with arrow pointing forward using the level in my iPhone and it was a done deal. Seems to me this should be standard safety equipment on any motorcycle......
