Default I got a small surprise when I took my front wheels off my RS.

I took my front wheels off my RS yesterday for the first time (putting on new tires). I loosen the lug nuts on one side and then jacked up that side and removed the tire. The surprise was when I went to the other wheel and tried to loosen the lug nuts I was able to spin the tire on the smooth concrete floor!

I ended up putting the first tire back on and lowering it back down so I could loosen the lug nuts on the opposite side. After that it was no problem to jack up each side and remove each tire. It may have just been a special set of circumstances but if you are removing both front tires on an RS you may want to loosen the lug nuts on each side before jacking up and putting the stand on your first side. It could save you some time.

That's how I've always removed my front wheels, loosen lug nuts on both sides before lifting.

I'd recommend this method on any vehicle tire removal. (Loosen before jacking up.)

    Default Loosen lug nuts

Or you can also have a helper step on the brakes

I thought that loosening the lug nuts and then jacking it up was the only way to take a wheel off.

Default I jack mine up and then.....

I grab my half inch impact wrench plug it into the airline and zip them right off then I reinstall them by hand and use a torque wrench to tighten up

Well, since I don't have air tools, I have to do it the old fashioned way.

I was lifting each side separately and I thought the weight of the Spyder on the second wheel would allow me to loosen the lug nuts. However, after lifting one side I was not able to loosen the lug nuts on the opposite side because the tire would spin on the smooth concrete floor.

Now, I understand it might be common knowledge to most people on this forum that you need to loosen the lugs on both sides of the bike before lifting each side of the Spyder. But I had not seen any description stating that; so I wanted to offer my experience so other newbies might have a positive experience the first time they take off their front wheels.

I'm not saying this to have a dig at anyone specifically or even in general, but Drhunt204, on behalf of those newbies or otherwise who may not have know this about lug nuts & removing them, or even those who might've sorta known/been vaguely aware but never realised the potential it'd have for our Spyders & removing their front tires, I would like to thank you very much for risking ridicule to bring this to everyone's attention!!

It can sometimes be difficult to share your info/experiences (or to ask for advice about something that others might think trivial) when there are people who are obviously well versed in the subject sharing their knowledge, but it always pays to remember that not everyone has the same depth of knowledge & sometimes the little things can slip thru the cracks because 'everyone' just assumes that all the readers will know them - but that's not always the case!! And besides, it never hurts to re-visit the basics every now & then, even if just to make sure that you aren't missing something that could or should be obvious... you can be very surprised by the little things that can get forgotten over time or in the stress of looking for a fix!!

So here's a big Thank You drhunt204, not only from me for your sharing, but also on behalf of those others who might appreciate the sharing &/or the reminder!

Default Peter, thanks for the kind words!

I appreciate Peter's kind words. I reposted because I was concerned that a few may have been confused by my first post about how I was taking off my front tires.

I wanted to let people know you have to loosen the lugs on both sides because of how light the front of our Spyder is compared to say a car. I thought I could break loose the lugs on the second tire while it was on the ground but the act of lifting the other side caused the opposite side to be too lightweight (or as I like to think I was just so strong and could spin the tire while it was on the concrete floor)!
