I am new to the CanAm world and am curious what others are doing while parking? Since I am larger than a typical bike I don't think I should use a motorcycle parking spot. So in a parking lot do you commonly use a normal auto parking slot? What about street parking, do you back up to the curb or park like an auto?

I have often wondered the same thing. I normally ride with 2 other spyders, and we will try to split and use 2 spaces, unless there are a lot and we can each have our own. When alone, I park in the middle of the spot, but towards the end so that an unexpected person will not pull up and think it is empty.
Interested to see what others do.

I park in motorcycle slots, along with the other trikes and motorcycles. When parking at a curb, I back in on an angle just like I did on my motorcycle. This leaves room in the parking space for another motorcycle or trike. Just common courtesy.

With a mixed group of two wheelers and trikes, we can stagger bikes amongst the 3 wheelers and take up less space. When by myself, I often back in but with an easy reverse, it's whatever makes for a safer way to leave the spot, same as in a 4 wheeler. If space is tight at an event, 1 Spyder pulls in, one backs in to share one car space...whatever works.

You pay a registration fee each year just like the 4 wheeled, 2 wheeled, 6 wheeled, 10 wheeled vehicles, etc. Park in any space you want.

Here motorcycle space are so rare that I just use a normal spot. On street side only if I'm with a 2 or spyder do we share a spot, otherwise i park in the middle.

Agreed that we have paid for the right to park in any spot we want, but when there are very few (car) parking spots available, but quite a few motorcycle spots, the considerate thing is to take the motorcycle spot.

When we are on a group ride and park, we back to the curb and leave enough safe space for another bike to safely park next door. It is a very orderly procedure and never had any problems.

What are these motorcycle parking spots you speak of??? My choice is easy. There aren't any motorcycle parking spots around where I live, so its into a car spot I go.

Here in Arizona, they go by vehicle value. I don't know what source they use for their values. I just renewed the tag on my 2015 RT and paid $460.51 for the year. My 2016 Toyota was $566.75 for a year. It doesn't seem to matter how many wheels you have on your vehicle, it's all about the value. Brutal!

Wherever is comfortable & oblivious Dont get too deep in a spot. Stay off man-hole covers & access lids, away from the obvious red fire lines & lil known but fyi the striped areas at end of rows on most lots. Paint color matters Yellow-ok, White-ok, Blue-NOT ok (handicap loading zone) if you Do not have a handicap tag or permission you can get a ticket same as if you were in the spot. Or a pissed off van may open lift door on your bike to just be mean.

Downtown parking in most parking structures Calgary is murder. $28.00 for a 3 hour minimum. (Private parking spot is $550.00 per month) No kidding. Higher than Manhattan, New York.

So when I do have to go downtown (Just retired and dont have to often) I take a WHOLE spot and spend the entire three hours thank you very much!!!

If parking by a curb and you angle park you stick out into traffic more than if you park it parallel to the curb. Just say'n ...

The only designated motorcycle parking spots I've noticed are usually in employee parking lots, at least in the part of Illinois we travel in. I might add that those lots are fairly rare. However, when they are provided, they are generally closer than most of the other parking. Just not a lot of them.

I ride alone 99.9% of the time. When angle or straight in parking, I park so the back of my bike is even with other vehicles around me. If I am parrallel parking, I park in the middle of the space. That way someone who thinks they are driving a small vehicle doesn't try to share it with me. If I am riding with another rider we share a space.

I park in whatever spot I can find, usually a car spot. I prefer to park forward in. The way I look at it it's kind of like a funnel. It's a lot easier to drive into the narrow part forward and back out into the wide portion than to do the opposite.

If alone... pull in with tail visible middle of a car slot. If motorcycle parking is available I park there regardless of size and if on the street parallel in the middle. When with a friend...pull all the way in and buddy backs in one car slot. Motorcycle if available and parallel back in at an angle both of us...

.. and I park where it makes most sense ( car or m/cycle spot ), is easier for me, and provides the best visibility to other "parkers"

Ok, with all the talking about "sharing a parking spot", has anyone heard of anybody being ticketed because only 1 vehicle has paid and the parking fees are assumed to be "per vehicle"?
