F3 Backrest ? worth getting
I've always had backrests on my motorcycles and found it helped with comfort, but on my F3 I find it pretty comfortable as is, question is does a backrest make it any better or worth the purchase, I'm 5'8" and run stock position bars and pegs ???

Interesting that you ask this question. I just installed a Spyder backrest on my F3-S yesterday afternoon. I have a bit of a funky back and left hip. The backrest makes the F3 significantly more comfortable for me because it takes off the pressure to maintain proper body alignment with my back and abdominal muscles fairly exclusively. I used the #3 foot peg setting for my 5'7" frame (used to be 5'8" before gravity set in) and installed some Spyderpops foam grip covers to enlarge the grips so that I can maintain a light touch on the handlebars. My neighbor who was helping me install the BRP backrest yesterday took my Spyder for a short spin around the neighborhood and commented how much nicer the ride felt to him with the backrest.
The backrest allows me to maintain an even lighter touch on the handlebars which in turn is allowing more precision in my steering inputs because I don't have to use the handlebars for support. For me, the backrest on my Spyder and another trike I own are a must have item. The installation is about a 20 minute job and is very simple for the BRP sourced backrest. The only downside is that BRP is very proud of those simple backrests with what seem to me very high prices for the piece. I found my best price from Mosites Motorsports in PA and excellent/fast service from Don, their Ebay sales coordinator.

Would not be without
Backrest was part of list of must haves on my F3. I also am 5'8". Wait correction I've settled only 5'7" now ... Since I enjoy long days of ryding the backrest was a must have for me. You have to do what works best for you...

Dang it would have to ask a question with so many positive responses, now you got me looking in my wallet again! I've never had a backrest on any of my bikes. Maybe I've really been missing out.

I added BRP's backrest to my RT, before heading out to SpyderFest this year.
I found that it gave me the ability to "stabilize" myself in unsettling conditions.
Heavy crosswinds, turbulence behind big trucks, rough and choppy road surfaces...
I found it easier to stay planted in the saddle!

What the Captain said. As well as everyone else. The stock BRP one is a large one. Tom

Backrest
All I will say at this point is, SHOULD you decide to add a backrest to your F3, do NOT even consider BRP's stock backrests.
Instead, do what we and many others have done.
Go straight to http://www.smoothspyder.com and order the DUAL BACKREST for your F3.
We just got it about a month ago and I will say, it is quite the addition.
You will love it.
HAND'S UP:
The only sure way of getting rid of bad habits is to create good ones.
AND, by the way, this will not happen on auto pilot.
It's time for a YOU-turn!!!

Ditto!!! Picked up our F3 last year and the BRP backrest was back ordered. got real lucky and saw Jim's backrest in Daytona during bike week. Tuesday I called and canceled the OEM unit and waiting (impatiently) until Jim made the finishing touches and started production. SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I got it!

If you think you're keeping the OEM seat and wanting a backrest, look at Ultimate Seats. They make an aftermarket backrest for the F3L. They don't make a seat, just the backrest. I assume it fits the F3 Limited.

BACKREST
I had a backrest on my first Spyder, an ST-S. As soon as I purchased my F3-S, the first farkle I ordered was a SmoothSpyder backrest. I ride 90% of the time solo, but when my wife wants to ride, I can move it back for her. I would never be without a backrest.

I have been using BRP driver and passenger back rests for 12 months on F3S.
wife and I love them. The drivers one has some adjustment and folds forward to allow the passenger to get on. But there is only room between both for a small medium frame person to sit on the passenger seat.
I am 5'9 and love the short reach handle bars. If I was short of funds I would buy the bars before a backrest. The bars allow me to really enjoy the long distance ride.
