Would a 5x9 foot U-haul utility trailer work to tow a Spyder RT?

No. Not wide enough. Mine is 76 inches wide and gives me some extra width. Even the narrow spyers are almost 5 feet wide.

Since your Spyder is 62" outside front tire to out side front tire a 5' (60") wide trailer would not work.

Will work great, just have to decide what wheel you going to saw off right or left.

It's also cutting it reeeeally close length-wise. The manual says my RT-S is something like 8'9" long, but it actually measures a bit more than that.

With UHaul, you have to figure the width of the tailgate, along with everything else. Before I bought a trailer to haul my Spyder in, the smallest UHaul I could use was their smallest double axle, and I had to supply the ramps.

Just loaded the one we bought today on a 6x10 trailer and it fits nicely. I can't imagine going with anything much smaller than that.

That's what we have, a 6x10 utility trailer, and the fit is good, but as you say, I can't imagine trying anything smaller.

I bought a 7x10 cargo trailer and couldn't imagine smaller in and enclosed trailer.

    Default UHAUL TRAILERS

Just a quick note about Uhaul trailers. I tried to rent a uhaul to pickup my Spyder. The opening on the back is smaller than the trailer. The sides come in several inches to meet the ramp so the actual opening is smaller than the interior of the trailer. The ramp width on the uhaul trailer is 57" but the spyder is just under 60". I called the uhaul store and they said no way. The trailer opening is the same or nearly the same as the ramp width. However if you get the trailer without the ramps it does not look like the sides come in so it would probably work. But you would have to supply your own ramps. I had no ramps so I borrowed a neighbors utility trailer. I still ended up having to fool around with homemade wood ramps to get the bike on the trailer.

Spyder is 62" wide so need 6 ft wide. OAL of my RT according to manual is 105". So you need 6X10. I use a 6 X 10 Aluma trailer.

    Default Trailers

I purchased a 6x12 utility trailer to transport my RT. The reason I went with the 12 foot length is that I wanted some extra length to be able to move the Spyder to get the proper tongue weight for towing. A 10 footer does not allow much room for adjustment.
