Should you just throw in the washer or hand wash them?

Real tough decision. Use your best judgement.

Monday I'm going to take a class in self assertiveness, if my wife will let me.

Default The reason I asked this.....

Well I made a big mistake. After the awful floods we had here now comes the heat wave of 108 indexed. So my helmet was nice and sweaty and for some reason I put my helmet in the Frunk for a couple days in the heat. So now I have a nice helmet that smells like a teenagers gym locker at the end of the school. It is a Shoei and I am thinking that the washer machine would clean it better, but I don't want to damage it.

Have you pulled the pads out yet?
Get them out, and throw them into a pan of soapy water...
"Squoosh" them around in the soap, squeeze out the suds, rinse them in cold water... squeeze them out again.
Then: hang them up to dry!
While you're at it: hit the inside of the helmet shell with some disinfectant.

I agree with what Bob D posted. That is how I do my liner. The only other thing I would add is that for soap I use my regular shampoo. Think about it. Most of the oils are from your hair so it seems logical to use hair shampoo. Gives it a nice fresh smell also.

I throw them out, and buy new ones, without asking the gf. And, I get them from bajaron, which make them doubly good, which is what my gf said.

They should be hand washed. But whatever works for you. Most cheek pads are made so the cloth cover is removable. I recommend just washing the cover if this is the case. Then you don't have to try and wring out the foam or wait a long time for it to air dry.

Buying new padding is also an option on most well made helmets (both cheek pads and the head liner). I carry the parts (and helmets) for Arai, Nolan and Speed & Strength.

You can also spray the inside liner with anti-bacterial products. This keeps them fresh longer between washing's.

Here are some suggestions for your next helmet.

Bob, just spray some of the stuff all around the inside. It'll keep your helmet nice and fresh and smelling just the way you like it...

Ron, I didn't know you sold Nolan helmets. I've been wanting one of those. Now I have to try to find a local store that sells them so I know what size to order.

Always good to try one on if you can. Just let me know and I'll get you pricing. My helmets have never been tried on. They don't come out of the box from the factory until you take them out. I don't sell demos, returns, etc.

I tried... They need to make a MUCH bigger can of it, for it to be useful. I keep getting mine confused with my deodorant, and apply it in a less-than-useful place...

I know what you mean. I just HATE it on those mornings when I spray deodorant on my head and hair spray in my arm pits. Done it more than once and it sets my whole day off wrong.

    Default N44 WITH B5

Ron, have you had any problems with the ncom b5 Bluetooth ? My wife and I both have the N44 With the ncom B-5 but the Bluetooth streaming is always skipping...I've looked on line, everyone blames the other guy, my phone works great on all my other bt things but my helmet. Also whenever we connect the intercom, one of us always has a little echo, usually me. Any ideas ?

If you are bald, or very short hair, always use a helmet liner, even if not, it is a good idea.

Even so, you will eventually need to clean your helmet liner. Decent helmets have removable liners. I like to use Woolite in the sink. Soak it in medium hot water and agitate by squeezing repeatedly. Let sit half and hour and rinse in warm water. Let dry overnight, or until dry.

Never leave a damp or sweaty helmet in a side or top case that is sealed. Just a few days is all you need to end up with mold and a ruined helmet.

Ironically I am doing it as I type.

I hand wash ours with shampoo and then put them on the shelf in the dryer on air only or on a warm, sunny day...dry in the sun.

But being your shampoo, does it add shine, body, & bounce to the liner too??
