    Default Fire!

My wife had a HOT ride the other day... looked like an electrical short of some sort under the seat. Scared her to death but she thankfully wasn't hurt.

Upside is She is moving over to my 13 RT-S and I have a 15 F3-S on the way!

Sent with no hands while travelling 106 MPH in the slow lane.

Glad she wasn't hurt & there is something left to investigate. You are going to check all recalls have been fixed, & there were no High load electrical accessories Right? Also what year & make was hers?

How did you put out the fire? Did you have a fire extinguisher or were you near a water supply? Normally when any vehicle catches fire, it burns to the ground because you are out on the road there is nothing to extinguish it with.

    Default Wow...!!

Glad no one was hurt and that was the extent of the fire. Does look like too many hook ups in there and hope they can determine what went wrong so we can be aware and avoid this. Happy to see that this did not send you packing and your moving on to some nice new units...

Glad you are all right. A few more details would be good. Most fires we have seen posted consume the whole . You folks are very lucky. Hope they do some investigation on this one.

Looks like a loose/corroded battery connection.

I can't really tell much from the close-ups; what year and make bike is this?

Glad to hear that she's okay!

I'm also glad your wife is OK. You seem to be taking it well. I guess the new F3S helps!

The bike was an 08 GS. Had 18k miles. The wire bundle that you see was the ONLY accessory and was a cigarette lighter outlet that was wired to the battery (fused) and up the 'backbone' of the bike to the tank bag for a phone charger. The fuse in this harness was not popped.

As far as putting the fire out, she was able to get some large wet leaves laid onto the fire area and then flagged down a passing car that had some bottled water handy. Very fortunate.

Glad it all worked out but please tell your wife next time let it burn to the ground, not worth risking getting burned and insurance may do something stupid like try to fix it, I always tell my wife and daughter if you see smoke go get ice cream and come back after you hear the fire trucks

The bike WAS deemed a total loss. And yes, I told her the same thing... Hard to do in the HEAT of the moment though.
