    Default 2016 f3 limited windshield

    Hello

    I just took my new f3 limited out for her virgin ride. I traded in my 2010 rt- s and am thrilled with the ride and sporty power. However the wind buffeting was more than I expected. The test drive I took I must have been more caught up with driving the machine than experiencing the ride and didn't notice it as much. I am 6'3 and was very happy with the wind screen on the rt-s. The stock shield just doesn't make sense. I feel a lot of the air flow is coming from the openings in the windshield and the gapping space under the bottom of the windshield. I've been looking at some models for the f3-s and they are more contoured and hug the cowling which is why I think I want but the way the limited mounts are not comparable. The only ones I see are from BRP for the limited are not much bigger and have that same opening on the bottom. My question is are there any other options available for a tall man and his incredibly performing toy. I can't even enjoy the stereo. I had zero issues with my tunes on the RT-S

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Its funny how different people (of different sizes) have differing viewpoints on the windshield. I'm 5'10" and have no issues with it. I can be riding at 55mph and have a cellphone conversation with someone over my Sena, with my helmet face shield up, and they say they can here me a clear as day. I get almost no wind through the spaces. You may need to try the touring windshield they offer. But it's a lot of money to spend for something that may or may not help.

    I think the Ltd comes with the touring windshield. I also suspect it has more to do with the height of the rider's head.

    You could become a "Bobble Head".

    They are a naked bike and of course no fairing like a cruiser. That is the trade off when you choose an F3 over a RT.

    IMHO, the F3 has as much "fairing" effect as an RT.

    If you are one of the "little" people maybe. I think anyone of size would argue that. Ride one for a whole day 400-500 miles on the Freeway Patti and then give us an opinion. Fun "sport Bike" but not a long distance "cruiser". That is what they were designed for and they did a pretty good job at that.

    Wind and noise are two large fatigue factors when riding. Most noise when riding highway speeds is caused by air rushing and burbling over and past your Helmut. That said I'm sure you know all that. The electrically operated adjustable W/S helps to solve a lot of this on the RT. The frontal area on the RT is much larger than the F3 or ST and the design is as you know much different.

    CalSci is testing F3 shield for 2016 F3 T/Limited, (with mounting holes at 3 1/2" apart to fit 2016 F3T/Limited, instead of F3 holes at 5" apart like on 2015 F3 CalSci shields, and no lower mount holes). (The 2016 F3T/Limited shields have wider mounting holes also at 22" across bottom, 21" across top holes, 3 1/2" top to bottom holes).
    There will be different heights/widths 2016 F3T/Limited available in May 2016, (like F3 shields on 2015 CalSci shield website).
    F3 CalSci shields are thick, curved, strong, vented, shields that give very good wind protection; especially if you are 6' tall & over.

    (I and Larry have 2015 CalSci XL XWide 25" tall shields on my DIY Aluminum side mounts on 2015 F3S that give great wind protection).
    Your other option is buy BRP 2016 F3T/Limited Tall F3T/Limited shield now, that is 7" taller than stock curved shield, has longer support shield mounts, top of Tall shield is closer to driver, (no curve at top).

    I replaced the original F3 Limited windshield with the BRP "Tall Boy". While it maintains the large gap at the bottom it is not vented and does not have the curved top as shown in the BRP 2016 Accessories catalog. Also something for Cal Sci to ponder. The Tall Boy come with "beefier" mounting brackets. The holes in the bottom of the bracket are obviously the same to mount to the F3 however, the ones to mount the shield to the top of the bracket are farther apart.

    I'm not a little person by any means. Rode my F3 from Pitbull's with no windshield. Had a blast love every mile.
    Also rode more than 400-500 miles in a day no problem.
    Love the wind and hell if you can't hear the engine what's the purpose? Everyone's not the same.
    Had a RT traded for a F3 at my wife's urging.

    I came from the RTS family as well. I tried the Calsci MH/WD shield and found I still got some buffeting. I changed to their HI/WD shield and love it. I think ex-RT folks will as well and at a much better price.

    He said an F3 Limited. To me, a much better and sportier tourer than an RT.

    for now you can add a x-creen tour to your stock windshield until you figure out what else you can do. It might help

    I'm right at 6 foot, and don't get any head buffeting with the stock windshield (Shoei modular helmet). I'm actually looking forward to getting more of the breeze with the F3 in the hot summer months then I could get on the RT. Then again, I had one of those '13 RTs with the built-in toaster oven.

    I'm glad I didn't use this comment to make a call on an F3......that's just plain misleading and wrong, Jack. The F3 Limited mentioned by the OP in his first post is indeed fully faired. It might be worthwhile bringing yourself up to date on the models before commenting.

    Default Noise, what noise?

    I have an F3 Limited. I installed the "Tall Boy" windshield and like it. There is more noise on the F3 than there was on the RT Limited I came off of and I wear a full face Shoei Neotec modular helmet. I sometimes wear a half helmet with over the glasses goggles.

    I keep a stash of disposable ear plugs in my glove box. I roll them as small as I can and push them in my ear as far as they can go. Let me tell you, it's so quiet it's scary! If you ever have an issue with wind noise, try ear plugs. They really do work and they're pretty inexpensive (You can use them more than once.). I even used them on my RT.

    The jury's still out on the seat.

    Default F3 Touring and Limited shields

    F4 Customs now has F3 Touring and Limited shields in Stock. We offer these in 21", 23" and 25" tall. All are offered in Clear or Tint and with or without a vent.
    Measurements are taken from the bottom of the shield to the top and the bottom is the same place as the stock shield.
    The glove box opens into the vent opening making the glove box fully functional.

    We have done extensive testing on these and the air management is great. We had several test riders log hundreds of miles with a co rider and there findings at highway speeds was no vibration in the shield and a calm ride. They felt that air vent was well placed and worked well.

    With the F4 shield you use your stock hardware so no change there is necessary.
    The shields are made from our Highly Scratch Resistant material, Shed Rain and are Optically Perfect.

    Jack has a tendency to comment on things and then read later. I spent the last two weekends all day for three days each on an F3T Limited, and found it to be a similar to my RT with regards wind noise. The FARING on the bike is very effective! I think the big issue is that the OP is 6'3" and the stock wind shield is probably best suited for someone 6' and under!

    I test rode the F3 LTD at Spyderfest this year. Don't know what windshield it had on it but it was probably the stock OEM for the model. I'm around 6'4" and felt no more wind buffeting (Shoei Neotec) at speeds up to 70 than I have on my '14 RT-S with the windshield all the way down which is zero unless I'm blowing by a semi and then there's no bobblehead problem, just some buffeting of my upper torso that's gone as soon as I pass the truck.
