I've learned that bikers seem to have more than one bike. Not to be outdone i bought a triumph sprint st 4 mos. after i bought the spyder and now i'm getting a triumph tiger. I'm curious what other bikes spyder ryders have and their reasons for owning more than one bike. I see my spyder as a sporty looking touring bike. Why own another bike? Are harleys popular as second bike? Or naked sport bikes? Are standards or cruisers or tourers being replaced by newer sport bikes? Is spyder for us middle-aged guys?

If I could have, I would have kept my SV1000s...I would rather have it especially with all the problems I have with my Spyder.

Honda Valkyrie 2ea, I guess it is a horsepower thing for me. I'm new to the Spyder, 2 months and 800 miles, however I do expect to learn to love the Spyder as much as the bikes but it will never replace them. The biggest advantage of the Spyder is the days during the winter months when there might be slick spots, I can still ride.

Agree about the convertible. My saturn sky sits in the garage and i take the spyder to work. I ride the two wheelers at night when there's no traffic on country roads just for a little thrill.

Convertible Crossfire and a warmed over Dodge CSRT-4. The only bike I need is the Spyder. I gave up 2 wheels long ago.

From your post i would have thought you would be a sport biker but the hondas look like tourers. Are they fast?

Do you really want this list? I'll hold up the multi-bike end of things, but you all know I am nuttier than a squirrel's diet.

The only modern bikes in the garage are my 2000 BMW R1100RT sport tourer, and my wife's 2008 Spyder SM5. Agreed about the convertible. Nancy's Falcon ragtop sat in the garage all summer...never left the driveway. She is in love!

My other toys include a 1972 BMW R75/5 "Toaster", which is also a nice ride and still sees several thousand miles a year, a 1965 Triumph Bonneville, a 1958 Simplex hotrod, the infamous motorized tricycle, which is not street legal, a BMW R27 awaiting restoration, and nearly a score of old Hondas. Haven't owned a Harley in years, I'm afraid. The Hondas include my 1961 CB92R, one of only 148 of the first Honda factory over-the-counter racers, a 1960 Honda "Tokyo Rose" Benly, a couple of CB160s, which also see some decent mileage, another Benly, a Superhawk, a couple of Dreams, my old 305 Scrambler, Nancy's Trail 90, some Supercubs, an S-65, and a couple of Sport 50s. I recently restored a basket case 1963 Honda CA200 Touring 90, like I rode in high school. I may ride that at Vintage Motorcycle Days this year on the Ride-'Em, Don't Hide-'Em.

Is this enough? Not highly likely! I have been looking for a decent Honda GB500, and just looked at a new BMW G650GS last weekend. Nancy suddenly imposed a "One-in, One-out" rule with that idea, though, so I have some decisions to make. In short, we are out of room.

Still have my 1985 Suzuki Madura which is what I was riding when I bought the Spyder last Fall. It's been sitting, guess i will sell it. I don't forsee me choosing to ride that over the Spyder. For the same reason, i will sell my 1984 Celica GTS, and just keep my Jeep and the Spyder. Ride the Spyder most and the Jeep when I can't.

Suzuki Boulevard M109R and an S40. Actually my bike is the 109R. My honey's is the Spyder. The S40 was her 1st bike but we both love the Spyder alot more!

I had a Triumph Sprint ST and a Kaw KLR in the garage when the Spyder arrived 16 months ago. I immediately sold the KLR (mistake) and almost never rode the Sprint. So I sold the Sprint and looked for something a little 'different'.

Bought a Buell Firebolt XB12R - what a fun machine, somewhat extreme riding position. I've got it outfitted with tankbag, tailbag, GPS, etc. And I've done as much as 300 miles in a day on that one. (Have done quite a few 800+ mile days on the Spyder). So I have two V-Twins with belt drives!

Why do u like buell better than the sprint? What makes you choose to ride buell vs spyder on any given day?

Most are insured now under a collectors policy. Lots cheaper than you would expect. As to maintenance, they are no worse than owning a house! Ho ho. I'm retired, so I have the time.

I don't know about Stuart, but I ride whatever grabs me that day. Sometimes it's the Spyder, sometimes, it's the Beemer, and sometimes it is vintage. Other times I just drive my hotrod. No explaining it, it just happens.

Right now riding '05 Triumph Thruxton, '08 Triumph Street Triple and '07 BMW 800ST...besides the SM5 Spyder. Also in the garage on my husband's side are a '08 Ducati Hypermotard, '05 Ducati ST3 (we share it - if I can find where he hid the lower seat ), '07 (I think) Triumph Tiger and a '06 (I think) Triumph Speed Triple. I also have a BMW Z4 convertible that gets out when I have to arrive looking semi-decent and without motorcycle boots! (It also gets taken to Wal-Mart to buy bags of cat food when I have a bigger shopping list than what the Spyder can handle.) The Z4 and our two pickup trucks get much less mileage put on them than the bikes, though.

Like Scotty, can't really say what determines which bike is chosen - except for long distance touring which sort of eliminates the Hypermotard and the Street Triple. Although we have put them in the trailer and hauled them off in search of twisty, hilly roads out east.

Problem with retirement is you just have too darn much time to visit motorcycle shops and too little restraint when it comes to saying "no". Right now, though, we sort of have all our "favorite bases" covered...touring, sporty, cafe racer style, dual sport, etc. so maybe we'll not be tempted for a bit now.

I didn't say I like the Buell more than the Sprint, but it IS different. The Sprint was an excellent long distance machine and got 48 mpg!

I ride the Buell when I NEED to lean, zoom around a cloverleaf and have the exhaust resonate against the Jersey walls. The Spyder is for any kind of riding, and certainly for long distance work, going away for a few days, etc. I like 'em both!

Pre Spyder we had a 2006 Rebel 250 and a 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 800. We traded both for the Spyder in February 2008 and bought back the Rebel in June 2008 as we saw gas prices skyrocket. I recently (less than two weeks ago) purchased myself a 2009 Candy Plasma Blue Kawasaki Ninja 250R. As I do very much love my Spyder, I also miss riding a two-wheeler (the Rebel is the wrong image for me) and and the advantages that come with a two wheeler.... namely, lane splitting. And the 50MPG+ isn't bad either.

Here she is. I have the CF Two Brothers pipe arriving next week for her along with the mono cowl and a blue Puig windshield.
