Most cars have electric fuel pumps, the Spyder has an electric fuel pump; a low pressure automotive rated electric pump with a connection to the Spyder's tank would set it up so I could transfer fuel from the auxillary tank without stopping.

The Piggybacker trailer we are going to get has a tray mounted on the front where we will be taking out 2 1/2 gallon gas container with us along with a cooler. Should work out good.

Best and safest extra gasoline transporter for Spyder or motorcycles in USA....AAA with motorcycle coverage! You may run out, but you will never be left stranded.
2008 GS SE5 in 2008
Traded at 43,000 miles for a left over
2010 RT SM5 in 2011
Traded at 57,000 for a left over
2014 RTS SE6 in 2015, which has 35,000 miles
Oct 19th, 2017, totaled 2014 RT while killing a Javaline
Dec 12th, 2017 drove a 2017 F3L home. What an awesome machine!
Never had any breakdown stranded issues.

I don't know if I would consider AAA the best or the safest in every instance. What if you run out in the middle of the desert, mid day, 110 temps and AAA doesn't show up for 5 hours?
They are definitely a good backup plan but I wouldn't count on them for my first line of defense.

My first line of defense is to anticipate where I am going and plan to have enough gas in the tank to get me there. I have been driving in the desert for over 20 years and have yet to run out of gas. Planning ahead seems to have worked for me.

Just seen this thread.... question.
dtang: what does 3 gallons by 7 lbs/ gallon do to your tongue weight on your trailer?
Of course planning is everything, but this summer when I travel to Yellowstone, there will be days when I take back roads... ( non-interstate) and worry about gas availability.... Good thing spyder likes 87 octane, but my riding friends are H.D.'s and need that 91 octane..... Probably, because I will have the trailer, I will just put 91 octane in it for all of us to share.

Here's an idea
What really needs to be done is BRP stage emergency fuelling depots along the whole route to and from their annual Spyder Owners Events.
( I really do hope that BRP makes these rally's an annual event )
They could be just simple 55 gallon drums of fuel strategically located in some of the most remote places.
And our Spyder Owners KEY would be the only device that could access this reserve

I am not sure but I was figuring closer to 5 lbs per gallon and I also decided it can't weigh more than ice and a 12 pack of pop or water.

Gas does weigh about 7 pounds per gallon. Water weighs 8.34.

We just have to try and distribute the items packed in the trailer so a little more of the weight is behind the trailer tires. That'll offset the additional weight of the gas.

Eff,
You live in Florida...there's a gas station on every corner...including in the middle of the Everglades...
Why the tank? You'd be better off with a refrigerated cooler with water for those hot days down there!
Or, with beer for when you get to your destination and take a long needed break!

Hey Bone Crusher...
You may be right about the Fl Travel, and I have a Camel Bak, plus I can put at least two pony kegs in the trailer, plus ice. BUT::::
I am heading north to AR, OK, then to CA.. don't know if they have GASSSS up there anymore.. It has been awhile since I was in that part of the country..

Well, it looks like a few of us will be carrying extra fuel on the trip out west. Let's pray we don't actually need it. I have been mapping out gas stops kind of and there are a couple of places where we may be cutting it close, but I do believe we will be okay. I know every program can not have every gas station on it. I work third shift tonight, so I may be working on it some more. I like to be prepared for these kind of long hauls.

I am planning on gas stops every 150 miles plus or minus abit.
That will be about a 2.5 hr ride , just a 60MPH average
