Default Keeping up with that key - anyone fit a lanyard?

How is everyone keeping up with there ignition key. Due to the design of it I can't see how to put a lanyard on it.

There are several options out there from covers that let you put them on a keychain to drilling holes in them. I have always used the OEM sheath and have no issues with it. A google search on "can am spyder key fob" returned a lot of results.

I keep the OEM sheath on a small keyring in my pocket. When off the bike, I slip it in the sheath and it's in my pocket. I've never worried about losing it.

I recommend keyport replacement & keep the OEM as a spare. https://mykeyport.com has room for 6 different keys however you want to make work for you More pics in album

A quick search/check of the Forum and you will find a lot of solutions. The drilling one is a bit tricky if you miss the spot. The sheath has worked well, and even though I thought it would wear out, it hasn't...

I use the original sheath that came with the Spyder with a neck ribbon. Works great. Normally I leave the key in the ignition. Not to worry. Who can figure out to start it anyway?

I keep my key either in the ignition, or when out and about, in my "watch pocket" in my Levi's.

    Question

    I must be missing something.

I truly don't understand why some people don't use the sheath that comes with the key. When I first saw the key in the sheath, I was a little puzzled for a few minutes, but then I thought, "What a brilliant idea"! Why drill a hole in the key when the sheath already has a hole? I have the sheath on a key ring with some other keys in my pocket. When I'm ready to ride, I just pull the key out of the sheath and put it in the ignition - with nothing hanging off of it. When I get off, I just slip the key back into it's protective sheath. I don't want anything attached to my key. The sheath protects my key when it is not in the ignition and keeps it handy and secure. You can use it on a key ring, a lanyard, or any other attachment that makes sense to you. I can't figure out why anyone wouldn't want to use it.

    This isn't a criticism, I just don't understand.

What does this key sheath look like? I bought my bike used and I haven't had an issue with losing keys, but now I'm curious.

You bought a used Spyder, that explains the question. Spyder keys come in a form fitting sheath that is a little bigger than the working end of the key and has a key ring on it. The key hangs upside down. If you don't have it, the thing I would do is drill a hole in the key as described in #8 of this thread by Lamont. By the way, he has some great videos on his Lamonster Garage site.

If you carefully note the positioning of the drilled hole; take an awl, and probe that area first.
You'll be able to push It right through the key, when you hit the "sweet spot"!

I drilled my keys, because I wanted to attach the key for the Lidlox right to them.

You can get from your dealer if you need to. Can still be annoying IMHO, which is why I went keyport.
