I posted this encounter back in 2013 and it remains my favorite encounter: I was fueling Scoot3r at the local convenience store when a young woman and her boyfriend/husband pulled up to the pump behind me and got out. They both showed a high level of interest in my ryde and came up to look it over. the young women then asked me, "Is that one of those Volkswagen conversions?" I just couldn't stop my mouth-and said, "No it started out as a '34 Ford; I just got carried away with the chopping and channeling." She got a very puzzled frown on her face and her boyfriend/husband stood there shaking his head. I then explained Scoot3r is a CanAm Y Trike designed that way and gave her one of the brochures I carry. As they went back to their pickup she turned to her boyfriend/husband and stated very firmly, "I still think it's a VW."

When someone asks me how much it costs my standard answer is "About $18K to $30K depending on the model and accessories."

I've only had one nosy that insisted on knowing how much I paid for mine.

How about can my kid sit on it so I can take a picture? I usually say I would rather you not, especially since I put the "Ultimate" seat on it. Cost to much to have some ankle biter scuffing it.

I think people in Utah must be singularly uninquizative. I have had Charlotte 6 months now and have not really been asked anything about her.

Then there was the lady who came up to me at a rest area on the interstate and asked...."Can you drive those things on the highway?"

I was tempted to tell her I flew it in, but didn't have the heart.

Most of what others posted...but the one I got and still get the most is....Who is the the driver? (I'm the only one on or by with helmet in hand) and the next most frequent is Can we ask how old you are? (couple times I couldn't resist said 90 next birthday!!!) . Oh yea the other one...you travel alone? answer 95% of the time but never alone...always have God, Smith & Wesson with me!!!

Tell them that you've got the driver locked in the pilot's compartment up front...

Maybe, but I have been asked some pretty odd questions about other things, including some of my other bikes.

The one for me was when we were riding in the mountains of Utah after the Owners Event two years ago. We had stopped at a rest area and as I was walking back to the Spyder I saw a man taking pictures of it (not uncommon). Once he relished it was mine he came over and asked
" Is that built for driving in the mountains?"

Did you tell him, "No. It's built for driving OVER them. When you drive IN them; it's called crashing!"

Stopped at service station in Ontario while on a trip to visit friends/family. The man fueling his four wheeler in front of me saw a puddle of water that had been left by a previous fueler and asked if I had air conditioning. Also had a teenager who had just exited from a souped up Camaro asked what my top speed was. I just pointed at the analog speedometer. He said wow and left.

Most frequent is, "is that fun? how much do they cost!" Most unusual, can you do a wheelie on that? Answer, yes but only in reverse! How does it turn? Well you drive it to the intersection than get off, pick up the rear tire and move it 90 degrees so the front is facing the direction you want to go! Can I take a picture? Yes! Can my son sit not it? No!
