Default Securing Items to the back seat Helmet etc

    I have a Spyder RT SE6 Base Model 2015 Having upgrade from a 2010 SE5

I ride solo as the wife is not so keen on long distance travel

Over the years I have been to Scotland x 2 Germany x 3 Holland x 2 France and Belgium x 3 times Over that time I have learn't what to pack etc and don't have a need for a trailer. Because the side cases, Front and Rear Funk are full I don't have anywhere to secure my helmet and I
also use the Back seat to carry a roll bag

I have been thinking of a way to secure those back seat items :

I have come up with this idea and others may find it useful

In the rear trunk I have fitted a Stainless Steel 316 Marine Grade Round Eye plate mounted on Rubber washers to keep any damp out this is secured by the bolt and a nyloc Dome Nut
This is placed at the back where the rear Passenger Back rest is secured to with the Eye Plate hidden below the Rear Passenger Back rest
at the back of the seat

The Eye plate can only be removed if you have access to the rear funk, so once it locked the Eye Plate is secure

I can use the Eye place to secure my Helmet bag which has a steel cable and a combination lock to the rear seat and the Eye plate can also be
used a a fixing bracket to secure a roll bag or other items when needed

Here a some photos which may help :-

Certainly one of the more "sanitary" D.I.Y. things I have seen posted here.
Also, ultra affordable. Thanks for the neat idea.

Man do I like that! Thank you so very much for such a simple, yet useful idea. The helmet holders on the newer Spyders, that are under the seat, are a good idea, but do not work with our helmets and we were talking about coming up with another way to do it. You just solved our problem. Ride safe, I'm off to the hardware store.

    Hi Eddie
A very nice, clever and sanitary instillation. I was thinking about a way to put hooks on my Spyder and you have just given me the solution.
For my helmets locks I have a bar that goes behind the license plate with regular helmet locks on each end, that is what I use,but the other hooks would be great.

Nicely executed answer to a common problem. Regarding helmet storage I use a 12" loop piece of plastic coated cable that I put through the D-ring and hook on the underseat helmet hook. I put the helmet in its bag. Of course that's not too good in the rain but I can always carry with me in a pinch.

That just may be the answer I've been looking for to hook bungee cords to to fasten things down on the passenger seat.

Thanks for sharing, could have used this earlier in the year before I lost my ride buddy on I81 at 75mph.

Update on my earlier post Ref securing item on the back seat of my Spyder RT

I wanted to have some more securing points I had used the rear passenger handrails but was concerned about marking them as they are soft rubber
I wanted a secure fixing that would be easy access, not interfere with the passenger hand rails when not in use
I have now fitted a Stainless Steel 8mm u bolt on each side these are secured underneath by the Stainless Steel backing plate and nyloc nuts

You can use either a bungee strap or in my case (I use 25mm webbing straps)
These u bolts could also be used to secure locking helmet bags on each side
