That smell...
The last 2 times I have returned from a ride and parked in the garage there is a strong "hot" smell emanating from the Spyder. There is nothing dripping underneath that I can see and with 425 miles on it, I would think any residuals from manufacturing or assembly would be long gone. Has anyone else encountered this?

I've had that smell since day1. Worried me at first but after 16k trouble free miles I decided there must not be a problem. It smells like hot oil to me.

Never noticed such on my '14. Since it's so new, call the dealer and tell them you want to take a healthey ride there and let them smell and check it out. May be new Spyder smell but I have no idea how long that takes to go away.

i have a 2014 RT-S. my DESS crapped out again 2 weeks ago. so my DESS has been replaced under warranty for a second time in 4 months. also, i have been smelling a burnt rubber/plastic smell all summer after i finish riding for the day. i have brought it to my dealers attention several times but they could never smell it or recreate it. i always had them document it tho. when i limped my spyder in because of the DESS code, not only could my tech smell the burnt smell i had been telling them about, but he could see smoke coming out of the front of my spyder. they tore the plastic off and discovered the cooling fan on the left side had become dislodged and some how was pushed back into the radiator. in doing so the blades had broke off and or melted off. with no blades, the fan motor was always overheating and that was the 'burning smell' i always smelled. tech was surprised my spyder didn't burn to a crisp. they replaced the left cooling fan and radiator under warranty.

Pull the Tupperware off the sides and look for any accumulation of oil. That is the most likely source. You don't need a drip to get a smell.

I feel the same after 6100 miles, the smell of burn, I even think is brake smell, but I do not worry anymore either.

That smell
My '14 RTL smelled every time I got home for the first couple thousand clicks. It smelled like hot rubber and it was coming from the drive belt. Luckily, It went away on its own and all was good after that.

Smell
Well, I am not a person to let the simple stuff get the best of me. So, Im going to give it another 150000 or maybe 175000 more miles and if that smell dont go away, well, i will just trade it in on one that dont stink.

I noticed that smell for the first few weeks (smelled kind rubbery), but it eventually went away. I figured it was the drive belt breaking in.

I just had cataract surgery with new lenses put in both eyes. With that said, I still can't read what you said. Might try a tad larger font. <smiles>

Just got back from a ride. Pulled it into the garage and shut the door so the air was still and proceeded with the sniff test. It is positively coming off the belt. Couldn't smell anything from the engine area and everything was dry (no oil or coolant) under the plastic cowling (tupperware?). Thanks to everyone for the responses and suggestions.

Funny !! I thought it was just me !! Have that exact smell on my 2015 RTS.
Bike runs great, so I'm not going to worry about it till it becomes an issue (if it ever does).
