rt not water proof?
So for the first time I decided to hand wash my RT. I have always just used detailing spray before, this time I got the bucket and car wash soap out to do a deep clean. Ooops! Now the bike will not start, it cranks, I smell fuel, and I am getting spark.... Anyone have any ideas? It has been blown dry inside and out with the panels off and air dried for two days. I am totally stumped. Oh, and no pressure washer, just the water hose for rinsing, but I did get dash area pretty wet.

I've always done that with no problems, I do use a gentle mist spray around the dash to rinse.
My guest is that you have a different issue, if you smell gas, it may be flooded.
Have you tried holding the throttle wide open while cranking the engine.

I always wash my bike by hand..Just guessing have you checked for water under your fuse covers?? Or any blown fuses??

I have used a pressure washer on my 2008 GS and now on my 2014 RTL many times
The only thing I do is to remove the key
I once had the check engine light come on until everything dried out
I just do not hit the dash and the switches up close with pressure washer now and everything is fine

Hard start...
try the throttle wide open (TWO) method. Hold the throttle wide open and crank for a few seconds to clear the cylinders. The release and try normal starting proceedure. Check kill switch, flip it a few times gently blow air around it. Hope that will get you going...

Tried wide open throttle but being drive by wire don't think that does anything till it starts, pulled plugs they where wet so cleaned them but no difference, course if they did foul they are probably shot, laid plug on frame and cranked there is spark, checked all the fuses all good there, reseated all relays no difference, checked all the main harness connectors, no sign of water, now have bike on charger will try again in hour or so, bike was running perfect till I washed it so guess if I get it running again ill have to leave bugs and dirt on it to keep it running LOL.

Kill switch
Did you by chance hit the kill switch when washing?

Nope, mine will not crank at all with kill switch in kill position, my engine spins over fine just not firing.

One more suggestion ..................... remove all keys from the spyder at least 5 feet away for at least 2 minutes to give computer time to fully shut down. then try to restart it.

I know that can work, but spyder was keyless for two days and repeatedly keyless for 30 min to hour since then.

something worked this time?
Well don't know if wide open throttle did it, or just something dried out, I had already cleared cylinders while I had plugs out, but didn't seem to make a difference, went back and tried the wide-open throttle for full 30 then retried start and it started, though a little ruff running at first, guess I will order another set of plugs. I still don't see why washing the bike would cause the plugs to foul, there was no sign of water intrusion on coils or anywhere else under the tupperware, so maybe just a weird coincidence? I was an auto and diesel mechanic for years, plus built all my first bikes from basket cases, and this machine just loves to stump me.
Thanks everyone for your patience and quick replies.

This magical key walk myth just won't go away. You forgot the part about doing the Hokey Pokey while waiting.
The DESS does not look for the key after the ignition is turned off. No need to remove the key at all.
The key transponder has a maximum range of 1 inch. Simply removing the key from the ignition switch it is out of range. 5 feet is just ridiculous.
Fault codes that reset after a power down will do so in 30 seconds as clearly explained in the service manual.

I have removed the tupperware and wash the engine down with a water hose and did not have any trouble starting. If the problem is truly from getting wet. It's broke and time to get it fixed before it leaves you stranded.

I have washed my Spyders many times with a full garden hose spray nozzle and bucket of soapy water - thoroughly drenching it, and never had any problem starting it afterwards

When I'm running the garden hose, I avoid the switches and control panel on the Spyder.
